Hi guys,

Im about to purchase a new set of irons.
After having my trusty Zings fitted to me a while back and the improvement that made on my game, im very keen to have a proper fitting session with a number of different makes and models. im not to bothered on which irons i get as long as they are correct for me.

my question is which dealer/shop/fitter etc should i use?

ive heard mixed reviews about american golf and how they have suggested equipment from a personnel sales point of view. i live in leicester and would travel to attend a fitting session if highly recommended.
any advice would be great, thanks

I have a real issue personally with AG and on a number of occasions have had custom fitting advice that was clearly wrong including one guy who thought I needed 7 degree upright.

I guess it depends on what make and model you finally plump for. My advice is to go to a range so you can actually see the balls rather than relying on a bay and a PC and try those you are interested in. Once you have a contender or two then decide where to go. I'm guessing the Belfry isn't a million miles away which has a number of the top makes there for C/F

I would decide on the irons you want and then avoid superstores and either go to a pro or one of the regional/national fitting centres.
If I wanted to buy Ping irons, I'd go to the national fitting centre, even if it meant a day off work or 500 mile round trip.
As it is, I like Mizuno and only have to travel 40 miles to the Welsh fitting centre....which I will do when my irons are close to worn out.

you could try an independent club builder. I know of one near Northampton. Deals with a number of club makers but you are unlikely to get Pings or Mizzies, more like KZG and possibly Miura

if you loved your Zings, then get yourself up the A46 to gainsborough and get some new pings done there. It's only 60 miles for you - you won't regret it.

I'd like to be associated with the remarks of the last speaker :)

But be aware, there is normally about a months waiting list for this service, so book ahead.

Dunno if you want to think out of the box, but the Orka clubs have had a couple of good reviews in GM.
And they ONLY use custom fit, with the actual club maker.
Might be worth looking at.

I was speaking to an Orka (and Snake Eyes) club builder last weekend. (he also does fitting for most of the major brands). He said that he sells a lot of Orka irons and that they are seriously good value. He was less complementary of their woods and apparently Orka are changing those next year.
