Afternoon all,

Things have changed a lot in the fitness world, so I don't feel happy giving my 10 and 12 year olds advice on what to do.

Due to their age, they have now decided that they want to be get stronger, a bit bigger and also fitter. What would be the best thing for them to do ? Also are there any programs that you would recommend?

Cheers

Midnight....

You have to be very careful with what kids at those ages do with regard to fitness as their bones and muscles are still developing.

I would say just going out playing sport and taking part in a number of activities is still the best option - swimming, tennis, jogging, gymnastics, football, rugby, martial arts etc.

My 14 year old has just joined the gym at the local leisure centre and that is the youngest age they will take kids. He's been given a programme by one of the fitness advisers to follow.

Perhaps you could get a programme to :)

Get them involved in school sports activities or even after school clubs.
They are at that age now where they can do a number of sports.
I always make sure my boy eats well and lots of it,he does so much he needs refuelling and also a good nights sleep.

Just make sure they spend as much time running about playing outside, as they spend on their IPads/ computers/ TV

Moderation in everything is the key 👍

😂😂😂😂

Mods - are you really going to let this unprovoked personal attack pass without intervening???? 😂😂😂

Might be old advice, but it used to be no weights until min 16. Mine go to jujutsu & enjoy it, but you can’t go wrong with any martial art or circuits, inc body weight exercises.

Martial arts is unbeatable.

Be that Muay thai / kickboxing / Judo / BJJ / Karate / whatever

Strength / balance / coorrdination / flexibilty / agility / speed / stamina etc not to mention focus, discipline etc

Cheers all for the info. Both kids already do football 3 times a week, but have stated that they want to get fitter. Will see what there views are on martial arts.

Thanks again.
