Kirklington, Bicester, Springs and Magnolia park are all decent places and not too far from Oxford, Ademac. And there's a few others that I know of but havn't seen or heard about how good they are. Studley Wood's good but maybe a bit pricey.

homer,
It takes me about 20 mins to get to Badgemore and I also work in Henley a lot, which made it quite appealing. TBH there is a good choice around Oxford in terms of golf, and there is a lot of courses still to be looked at. Therefore, having all that choice maybe makes me more fussy? I know of at least one other course that has great facilities and is a great course and good membership and ALL comp's are drawn. It's about £150 more than Badgemore but on todays evidence, well worth it!

Anyway, as I said, at least it DIDN'T RAIN!

I'm not making Badgemore out to be some great club. I've played it twice (won both of my matches) and found the track a challenge especially with the blind shots. I think you can do a lot better than Badgemore and you were obviously upset (quite rightly) at the way you were treated so I can see why you wouldn't want to put substantial cash into a club which you may grow to dislike even more over time.

Aylesbury - not far really. Honestly I think SW's out of my range but its certainly on the playlist being so close. I'm playing at Aylesbury Vale thursday - looking at joining there. its between here and MK.

Have to look at having a meet-up someday when the weather's better. You going to Ascot in April?

Yeah, I'm down for ascot, can't wait for it! Be good to put a face to the names as well!

Tbh, I think I'm biased towards studley because of all the good things I've heard and the friends I've got as members there! Will be playing it for the first time though this week! I'll let you know and if I sign up I'll invite you along for a game!

I will take your word for it then Homer. In my limited golfing experience I have always played at places where there is a separate practice ground, plus I am pretty spoilt with the practice area at my club where there is an area large enough for 10 people to comfortably practice without interference with one another in terms of the width and collecting their balls and also it is nearly 300 yards long. In addition to the range where people can save themselves the hassle of collecting their own balls. There is also a large practice green of 'course' standard with bunkers surrounding and the ability to play 40-50 yard pitches into it if you so wish.

let me assure you that if anything eagle has underplayed just how much practice area he has. he left out having separate putting areas for each course and that pitching area is big enough, and its green contoured enough, for a small army to practice without ever speaking.

we played as a 4ball at Rowlands Castle on Sunday - the guy in the shop told us we can tee off on the 10th it was busy but it was up to us as after a quick check it was quiet on the front 9.
so we started on the front 9 and after 3 holes we had a couple of 2ballers behind us - the first couple were elderly members and we told them to play through. they were very rude and told us we had no right teeing off on the 1st as the time slots were reserved for members only and 2balls at that. after explaining we were given the option they were still very aggressive towards us...
this continued with various other 2balls catching us up for the next 6 holes. very frustrating, especially when a/ we didn't know, b/ were told to start on the 1st!

to make matters worse we were stood on the 15th tee when i commented that we were awfully clost to the 18th fairway... thwack my friend gets hit on the knee by a fairway drive which is followed by a 'fore'.

otherwise - great course :)
