After my consideration of how to spend cash burning a hole in my pocket I have decided to take the plunge and get some lessons. The first one is tomorrow.

What should I expect to get out of this first 1 hour lesson?

Is it a case of the Pro understanding my faults and breaking them down and giving me some routines to practice.

Always been concerned that my swing be dismantled to such a state that I won't be able hold a club never mind swing it.

I don't want to get my expectations up and what he can do in one lesson likewise I don't want to be short-changed.

you need to decide what you want from your game, either tell him you want a tweek here and there to help you along, or tell him to treat you as a blank canvas and rebuild you from scratch. number 2 is the better long term option IMHO, but you wont play well for a while!

Just go with an open mind and be prepared to practice what you get taught and dont be afraid to ask why.

Good luck!

Hope you really enjoy it. My first assessment was good fun, though the vid looked terrible to me. I expect that your 3 basics will be checked, Grip, Posture, Alignment. Then you will be recorded, you will watch the playback, have a good old chat, and you will be given a key to go away and work on by yourself. Your swing wont be dismantled. Best of luck and please let us know how it goes.

go with an open mind let your pro evalute where your at nd talk through where you want to get too and how much practice you can put in.
good luck and hope it wo r ks out well

My advice is to speak to the pro and explain what you are trying to get out of the lessons. How many have you booked? Go through your faults and bad shots and decide how you want to proceed. The thing with lessons is it's a two way street and you have to be comfy with the pro and the way he teaches. Do you want it in simple terms or do you want some details

That's exactly how mine went a few weeks ago, he changed a fair bit with me and it's been hard work, in fact very hard work but if you have lessons you have to stick with what you are been taught and not go back to the old grip/stance.

So first lesson accomplished!

Went in with an open mind and walked the two way street with the Pro ( Thanks all for your advice above).

First thing he said was hit a few shots to get warmed up and so he could see me in "action". Me to him "I keep hitting the ball right", after some watching, him to me "your hitting the ball left!!". How does that work? Well it looks like I can't see in a straight line I've been lining up right of my intended target ( but correctly swinging along that line:thup:).

The Pro (http://www.motleygolf.co.uk/) I can recommend thoroughly to anyone in the area (Glosoucestershire/North Wiltshire). He had Trackman and video analysis and used it clearly in a way that it was easy to understand what he was talking about. What a difference it makes to be able to see your swing and get it broken down into easy to understand steps.

He gave me a few pointers on my backswing ( which was in a mess beforehand due to me tweaking it every 2 weeks) and then shifting my weight forward at the start of the downswing. With the Trackman I could easily see immediate improvement in my consistency.

Came away with a clearer head on what I need to do, an analysis video and Trackman report, and the next lesson booked.

Well worth the money, and glad I didn't through money after a swing analysis gadget as this would have just sent me further into confusion.

Bring on the new season!!
