Had my first lesson today, he just got me working on my stance and grip. He put me in an 'expalnar' which was a strange experience. After my 1st couple of shots he asked my what other sports I have played, after telling him I played cricket for 20 years he explained to me that I need to stop cover driving the golf ball! He also explained I dont use my shoulders and 'trunk' enough. After a few shots I started to get it. I was also starting to close to the ball and not leaving enough room between me and the club.

The nice thing was he said there a few poistives, like a perfect left arm position, and that if I iron out the faults then I should do well.

Really enjoyed it and looking forward to the next!

Sounds good, at least there were some positives, well done.

Last lesson I had, was one of those 'apart from your alignment, posture, grip, and swing, you are fine' type lessons.

Stick with it, you'll be fine.

Ex cricketers always cover drive at golf.

Would like a go on an explanar, to feel what the correct plane is.

As another ex cricketer I can vouch for the cover drive issue. I find it difficult to draw the ball due to a poor release of the hands turning my bottom hand over my top hand. This is made even more difficult as I am naturally right handed but play golf and cricket left handed. I really struggle trying to force my unnatural weaker left hand over my right. Strangely though it was easier after a few goes on an explanar.
