I have my very first lesson on Saturday. My game basically fell apart post Christmas, so i had a few weeks off (most of February was a write off weather wise anyway)

I'm raring to go again now, played last weekend and despite shooting way way way over 100 it was nice to be out there again. I have purchased a course of six lessons with a local pro. Hoping to find some form before the summer.

Not sure why but I am a little apprehensive about it. Probably because I am a terrible practicer and have zero patience. :D

Any advice anyone?!

Be open to criticism, be prepared also to take 2 steps back, to take 1 forward. But it will click! On my first lesson, I had my grip, stance and backswing adjusted... Hit everything right for ages, but it clicked and I am getting confident now!

You'll also get better results if you can practice in between lessons.
I found it was also a good idea to stay on a bit after the lesson finished to get a feel of what you've been shown on your own shill still fresh in your memory nothing worse than practicing an error!
Good luck and Enjoy

Be open to anything! I recently had a lesson where I was very confident, had just shot my best round at a little par 3 course and could nail any club in my bag.

I went into the lesson and duffed and $h@nked everything! The reason? I had a "flying elbow" that I corrected for at the top of my swing. In the pressure free situation of the bay or the non competative round on my own I could keep correcting for it. Under pressure my swing fell to bits!

He corrected my takeaway and I started nailing irons. The lesson: I had a swing that worked but it did not mean it was going to stand up to pressure!

Relax, the pro is just human like anyone else but be aware your biggest swing flaws will be exposed and then fixed :D

i had a pre season mot last week and apart from a few minor things everything fine, just go with open mind and above all listen and do what the pro tells you and enjoy.

Just returned from my first lesson and feeling very positive.

He "diagnosed" me as swinging too much with my arms and sliding away from the ball with very little hip turn so i stood there hitting little sand wedges trying to stay centred and start the downswing with my legs/hips, trying to sure i took the ball first.

We also worked on the release as I was cutting across every ball i hit to begin with.

I have a drill to do and a book to read as homework!

Really should have done this sooner. The things he said just made sense. More sense than I could ever get out of it on my own!

Booked my lesson for after Easter as I'm busy next week and the fly out skiing on the 31st so no point in having a lesson and not bring able to practice! Hope he can work wonders! Back swing is good just the bit after that that's the problem!!
