Having semi-retired from the game of golf for over ten years I joined a club last year and went on to get my handicap in February - 10. I was very pleased with this. Having not played regularly for so long it was nice to get a better handicap than my last one (11).
My plan was to kick on from that and, hopefully, make single figures this year. Unfortunately, when it mattered, I couldn't produce the goods and my handicap crept up to 11.
It became quite frustrating. I know that I can play this damn game but somewhere between my brain and my body the knowledge seemed to evaporate!
I played in the Captain's medal recently and shot an 83 - nett 72. It included two three putts (!!!) and a five iron on the last that I didn't commit to which resulted in a horrible, sliced effort which found a lovely bush. This rubbish shot annoyed me more than the three putts!!!
Anyway, I came fourth and, more importantly, a cut which brings me back to 10 (10.4). I know it's not much but I'm chuffed and I hope to continue my good form into the monthly stableford on Sunday.
