First comp....

Medal or stableford. My advice would be to do nothing different beforehand to what you do on a normal weekend round. If you warm up then do that, if not don't suddenly go out and hit a bucket. Don't try too hard, take your medicine if you hit a bad shot. If you don't know the rules, ask before you pick up the ball or move it. Above all, relax and enjoy it. It's meant to be fun. Really!!!

^^^^^ this. Don't go for the Ryder Cup shot if you get in to a bit of a situation. You don't need to chase anything, just play your game as you normally would and enjoy it. That's that the game is meant to be about.

have a great time. Whatever happens don't worry - you won't be the first to need help with the rules, or to be nervous, or if things go awry to have a bad score. Keep positive and don't apologise and don't ever give up. I had a 17 on the first in the Corby boys open in my first away outing, but i still then tried to beat 115, if i'd picked up I wouldn't have had a target. Later when I was a "far better" golfer I had picked up after having 13 - No return - my lowest point on a golf course, no where to hide nothing to aim for. However it goes, as they say, you won't be the first and you sure won't be the last either for good things or bad things to happen

So hope you have great weather, are partnered with good folks and shoot low !
