Finish work on 15th to play more golf, I mean look after the kids! My wife is going back full time, which I tease is not really full time as she is a teacher! Just wondering if there are any other stay at home dads on here and if anyone has any advise? I'm looking forward to actually spending quality time with my daughters and wife, I've worked stupid long hours the last ten years as a transport manager and feel it's time they came first, after my golf obviously!

I've recently given up work to look after my kids - and I love it!!!
I too used to work stupid long hours - I won't tell you what I did as it's a rather hated industry.....
It's nice to be able to put the kids first rather than relying on someone else doing that. I've found that their behaviour has improved and my Daughter's reading has improved hugely since I've been able to sit down and help her earlier in the day as apposed to trying to help her at 8:30 at night!!!
Also, the house is a calmer place. My Wife goes out to work and then we all get ready for school nice and calmly rather than previously when I was rushing around like a mad thing trying to get everyone sorted.
I always add that we are EXTREMELY lucky that we're in a position to be able to do what we do - many people wouldn't have the option so I'm very grateful for that.

I think despite this being a wonderful direction to move your life in, after working so hard for so long you will find it hard to wind down. I was made redundant after 15 years at the job and found it very hard to be at home all the time. Your situation is different and golf will help but it may be worth setting some personal goals.

Good luck, I wish it were me, my 1st is on the way and it means working double time.

Both my wife and I took a redundancy package from our respective employers 18 months ago. Best thing we ever did. 27 years of whining staff and customers meant we were so worn out we didn't need to wind down. Never been so busy doing all the things we want to do, especially since my wife suggested I take up golf again last July.

We have made some sacrifices such as getting rid of sky sports etc (which is really killing me now the season has started and the masters upon us) and many others but you can't put a price on family time and I feel very privileged to be able to do so. we have no debts and bought our house before the boom so my mortgage is not too bad. My wife is a teacher so we will also get all the holidays together. My fees for next year are sorted so I have 18 months to save for 2013 season. I'm actually looking forward to switching off, I dream about work on holiday how sad is that!!!

nah, politician ;)

or traffic warden lol.

good luck, I did these when my 3 were toddlers for approx 2 years as the misses could earn more at the time as a nurse. Didnt play golf but still loved the time with the kids and it was good training as now as a single dad housework etc is not a problem. I do have the morning mayhem before work tho :(

make the most of it as kids soon grow up
