Finally lost interesr

I am coming to the end of my golfing life purely because an arthritic back has stopped me swinging.
I started in 1966 and played off 9 for 20 odd years.
I love the game but cannot enjoy it as much playing so poorly in comps.
I just play for the pleasure of being out in the open air, with people I like.
I imagine you are much younger than me , 76, so be careful how you proceed.
I would love to be in your shoes but that is not the point, if golf is no longer enjoyable take a step away and re-evaluate your options later.
Hope you dont give it up completely but it must be enjoyable.
Good luck with whatever way you go.

Yeah I've had this in the past a few times.

Only way I got\get over it is to take a break. Go do something else for a while. If golf still interests you you'll miss it and come back. if not then you have your answer.

I took 2 months off last year. Didn't miss golf one bit for about 6 weeks, and was convinced I was done with golf, almost sold my clubs. Then started to get the itch again.

Yep, stuck in a slump too. The last proper round I played I was pretty unpleasant company, and since then I've just been depressed. Broke my 6 iron too, and can't be bothered mending it.

Played Greensomes and then foursomes last weekend, played junk, but actually quite enjoyed it. We are 6 from dead last, but so what, at times it was almost fun. Back to better ball on Saturday, then a pairs knock out on Sunday. After which I am having a break while I still own any clubs.

My worry about stopping has always been, will I come back to it. So many of my friends are from the golf club, I would miss them, but I've not really enjoyed playing golf for around 3 years.

No idea how this helps you though!

Perhaps a bowling club could be the answer, with only one green to keep nice , no ruff to cut , no bunkers to rake, no trees to trim, no water hazards to keep tidy .
Then you have no new balls or irons to buy , no handicap to worry about.
Come to think of it , the way I'm currently playing , it might suit me . :o

He's in his 30's not his 300's :D

Re: Finally lost interest

You need to forget about the score, forget about the numbers and just enjoy being out in the fresh air, the smell of freshly cut grass and look at the course architecturally.

While playing a round there are so many worse places to be.

Given his job, I suspect the smell of more freshly cut grass is the last thing he wants. :)

If you're not interested any more, or don't enjoy it, then don't do it. If you miss it, you'll come back renewed. Or else you'll find something else you enjoy even more (not possible really, but you could try)

The best solution is to ask the missus if she wants the house painted and decorated. You'll be surprised how quickly you regain a passion for golf.

Please don't mention painting and decorating, I've just finished renovating our house, just in time to move 👎👎

Re: Finally lost interest

Become a ball hoarder like me, every round is an opportunity to find loads of balls. There's a few hotspots on our course, found 27 - yes 27 balls today on the back 9.

If if you play crap at least you've got balls :)
