I have played golf since I was 8 on and off mostly as a junior. So 22 years later I find myself playing off a handicap of 4 and have made lots of friends along the way.
The only problem is that I just find myself so uninterested these days which is a strange feeling as its all I've ever enjoyed as a hobby. I'm also a Greenkeeper which may not help. The question is, is anyone else going through this and if you have how did you snap out of it??

HELPPP

I started at 9, in July 1968. Unfortunately my handicap(5) is climbing a little, which can be frustrating. Been where you are in terms of do I really want to play anymore.

My favourite method for reigniting the passion is new irons!! Works every time.

Alternatively, a golf trip with mates, although the 4am drinking sessions in the casino/night club are history. Playing on a trip, where there's no 0.1 to worry about and you can take on the Hollywood shot without fear... brilliant!

Don't have an answer but can relate to losing interest , frustrated , put in work but handicap is still going up .. cant seem to stop making stupid silly mistakes.. trying to play through it.. aint working

When what u do for fun is no longer fun , what are the options ?
give up ? , maybe . we will see

Perhaps a bowling club could be the answer, with only one green to keep nice , no ruff to cut , no bunkers to rake, no trees to trim, no water hazards to keep tidy .
Then you have no new balls or irons to buy , no handicap to worry about.
Come to think of it , the way I'm currently playing , it might suit me . :o

I know where you're coming from, I went through a similar stage, possibly still am.

Google "Occupational Burnout", seemed to fit in with how I was feeling.

Just take a break, stop playing totally. It might take a few weeks, a few months, but you should slowly miss it and get the desire back.

No I just love it.

A change of scenery has certainly added an extra dimension though.

Re: Finally lost interest

You need to forget about the score, forget about the numbers and just enjoy being out in the fresh air, the smell of freshly cut grass and look at the course architecturally.

While playing a round there are so many worse places to be.

Re: Finally lost interest

Just think of a really bad day you've had on another job, then think of what you'd prefer to be doing....

The above, or out on the course playing 18 holes...

Re: Finally lost interest

How often do you play purely for the fun of it? I always think our scratch team players appear to be far too serious most of the time, on and off the course. They rarely seem to be enjoying themselves. Maybe a break from competitive golf is the answer?

Re: Finally lost interest

Defo time for a break. Ive have treated golf as a second job almost this year spending so much time on the range and practice areas, course, working hard to drop scores. My handicap has gone up .4 in last 4 comps and I i just lost interest.

Took a week or so off andand already missing it so off to the roll up in the morning. Maybe a good break for you to help you realise what you'd be missing.

What is the purpose of golf?

What is your purpose for golf?

Are you honestly achieving them?

1- To get a ball from tee to green and into the hole in the least possible strokes.
2- Try to enjoy getting my ball from tee to green and into the hole in the least possible strokes.
3- ATM , no :o

That is the aim right? It's what you want to do, not why you do it?

For me the purpose of golf is a way to get outside and have fun.

My purpose for golf is it gives me so many great memories, I play to make more of them.

Lost interest but mostly because I'm playing crap, real crap (23 points crap) and frustrated as I know the game is in there but so well hidden I've forgotten where I put it. To be honest my biggest struggle has being keeping my frustration bottled inside as I "play" so as not to spoil it for anyone else. Managing to keep it all in, and with a break coming up as we have Royal Ascot next week and the club is a no go zone (you can play a reduced course but good luck getting in and out) my hack with mates at Surrey National is all I have and it might not be a bad thing

These threads continue to amaze me! At the risk of being slated mercilessly, I will now state the truth:

IT IS JUST A GAME, A HOBBY. NO-ONE IS HOLDING A GUN TO YOUR HEAD, NO LIVES WILL BE LOST IF YOU MISS A PUTT OR, HEAVEN FORBID, LOSE A BALL IN THE ROUGH. YOU DO NOT NEED THE PRIZE MONEY FROM THE MONTHLY MEDAL TO PAY YOUR MORTGAGE AND FEED THE KIDS.

Just go out and hit the ball round a nice course, taking in the fresh air and taking time out from work and all the other things in life that are much more important than whether you make buffer on a round.

in other words, lighten up and enjoy golf for what it is, a nice pleasant pastime....

that can get very infuriating sometimes:D

That's the problem, it's a hobby I couldn't get anymore of but now and for the last year I don't get the enjoyment out of it I use too. I've never been obsessed with competitions and my handicap so generally fun, first score second. I just wanted too know if any others had gone through this blip in enjoyment!!
