Final swing thought

I think I've finally figured out my last mental thought before every single shot (tee, irons, chips, putts - whatever) and it makes a world of difference to my golf.

RELAX! If I relax the tension in my shoulders, arms and hands I can play. Seizing up is a big cause of terrible shots for me, especially on the first few holes and any chips.

Anyone else think the same? What's going through your mind just before you swing?

"Did I lock the car?"

"Can I scratch my arse without anyone noticing?"

"Don't duff it"

"What's for tea?"

All recommended by Bob Rotella. :D

Or, try to recall the feeling after I've hit a good shot at that hole. Ie, mental rather than physical thoughts.

Don't sh**k it.

:D

As Meatloaf famously said, you took the words right out of my mouth!
I am a nervous wreck when it comes to 30-70 yard pitches, I usually hit them ok, by the end of the round I somehow manage to keep it together but christ am I mentally knackered.

Am I square?

its only after I have hit the ball that I haven't checked my grip  and a dozen other things.

So last night I drew a question mark on my glove, to remind me to do all my checks before i hit the ball:o

Hopefully it will work in our second biggest comp of the season over two days this weekend. :p :p

At the minute it dont drop your right shoulder as I am pulling everything 30 yards off line  normally not much it is one aspect that is pretty strong shame about the rest of it :D

ps I can shank with the best of them and just laugh it off

Hope I dont miss it. Oh S**T only 50yrds still better than the last one.

no really think at the mo. "plant front foot and turn" as I have been tending to slide at the moment and push the shot.

I am really trying to get out of the habit of having swing mechanics going round in my head before I swing. I know it does me no good but I practice a lot and it is a hard habit to break. What I need to do is spend at least half of my practice time without any swing thoughts and forget mechanics then take this to the course.

Words like relax and smooth are both good thoughts to have and will try to have 'relax' in my head tomorrow before every shot whilst picturing my target.
