Films

I hardly watch any films these days because of how long they all are. Usually don't have the patience for it. Amazingly few films are actually under 2 hours nowadays.
Bet you can't remember the days when you went to the cinema and there were two screening and they opened the doors to let the smoke out 🤢

Can you remember the days when if you went up to the front of the screen sang a song or recited a poem and they gave you a bag of sweets?

Saturday morning flix used to be brilliant. Flash Gordon on 1st as a series and then the interval when kids with birthday went on stage. Got an ABC badge and goodie bag and then the main film usually a children’s film foundation production

And the National anthem with a clip round the ear from the usherette if you didn't stand up and sing. 🇬🇧

Lat night I watched
The Bluff (Prime)
A sort of pirate thing but do not think Pirates of the Caribbean

One I would recommend but be warned it is very violent and bloody from the off.

Hamnet.

Go see. Just superb and incredibly moving. Good to read the book beforehand but absolutely not required.

And guys…as you watch and you feel that funny thing called emotion welling up inside (as you will), just do the right thing and let the tears fall. And yes I know that our emotions are being highly targetted, but you know…so be it. And yes I have since learned that the music used towards the end is not new score for the film…but I don’t recall hearing On the Nature of Daylight by Max Richter before…and it works beautifully and does its job…to perfection.

As unfair as it is to pick out any of the cast, Jessie Buckley is indeed just awesome (as the playwrights wife), as the reviews say, and she deserves every plaudit and award she gets.

Jerry and Marge go large. Lighthearted family film about an American couple who find a foolproof way to win on the American lottery and set up a business with locals investing to win money. Was on film 4 but can be found on prime. If it’s just you and the other half with nothing to watch and you don’t want anything heavy you might enjoy this. Based on a true story
