Films you have never seen

Anyone who hasn’t seen Shawshank Redemption then I can only highly recommend it - brilliant film

Jurassic Park
My eldest kid was obsessed with this film age 6 ish, seen it so often I can recite most of Dickie Attenborough's lines in it.?
Game of 2 halves, film start to middle is quite good but 2nd half is just tedious screaming!

I've never seen a single Star Wars film. Seen so many clips over the years it feels like I've seen them all though.
Also never seen a Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings film, just not my thing.

There are quite literally hundreds of supposedly great films I've never seen. Wouldn't know where to start. I haven't seen most of the Star Wars films, although I have watched one or maybe two of them - definitely saw the Darth Maul & Jar Jar Binks one. I'll pick a few from the imdb top 250 that I haven't seen:
Schindler's List (not interested in war films)
Saving Private Ryan (not interested in war films)
Green Mile (we bought this on DVD once then had second thoughts and decided it was too depressing to actually watch, based on what every says about it)
Psycho (hate horror films)
Alien (hate horror films)
Good Will Hunting (don't even know what it's about)
Heat (I actually do want to see this and keep forgetting)

I'll stop there, but add anything before 1980 it's very likely I haven't bothered watching it either.

No point listing numerous classics I've not seen.

But since this is a golf forum, guess I should own up and admit that I've never seen Happy Gilmore.

Despite always wanting to see them and feeling I should do, I never got around to watching any of the Lethal Weapon, Beverley Hills Cop or Die Hard films.

I think that for a lot of the "classic" movies people have listed, if you saw them for the first time now you'd likely not agree that they were classics. A lot of films are very much "of their time" and don't date well, even though they've gained classic/cult status.

For example, Top Gun is a "cult" film that I love. First saw it as a teenager with my mates and we still quote lines from it at each other now! However, I reckon that if I saw it for the first time now, I'd think it was a load of old guff! I think you could probably apply that same view to a lot of so-called classics.

Lots of films I haven't seen but if you're talking about the "biggies" or the highly rated ones
  • The Shining
  • City of God
  • Life is Beautiful
  • American Beauty
  • There Will Be Blood
  • Raging Bull
Also anything recent by Adam Sandler or Wil Ferrell as I can't stand either of them.

Good will hunting is one of Robin Williams best films IMO. Written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Matt Damon is a janitor at MIT, but a genius and solves a math's problem left for a professors class to solve.
Robin Williams is a psychologist who helps Matt Damon's character get through childhood trauma. Well worth a watch.

Green Mile also another great movie, I wouldn't say it's too depressing more sad then anything.

Heat is an absolutely brilliant movie, a great crime story with that epic feel of a Scorcese movie, and one of the best shootout scenes in cinema. If it ever appears on TV, I will start watching it wherever it is at.

Saving Private Ryan is also terrific. Tom Hanks plays against type, but so many great scenes and actors. The strat is quite brutal, though.

Not a massive fan of Alien, prefer Aliens.
