Fife / Lothians area - local knowledge needed

Will be travelling back from St Andrews Friday 21st April and would like to make the most of my golf pass and get a knock in on the way home.

Would ideally be;

£50 or under
Able to get on early
A less than obvious choice


Done a quick scoot courtesy of the top100golfcourses.com site and there's loads to choose from though, though Glen GC looks interesting.

Any input from people who live, have played in the area on this (or other courses) appreciated :thup:

The Glen is a good course. Gullane no.2 is my favourite. Longniddry another one as is Craigielaw

Wouldn't choose a club in East Lothian as you have to go round Edinburgh both ways on the detour there. Personally I would just take every chance to go and play at Silloth, realise its not in the area you asked for.

Aberdour is in the area, links(ish) and cheap. Crail Balcomie would be my other suggestion. Think Lundin and Leven are both over the 50 mark sadly

The OP looking for an early start, miss the rush hour especially heading to East Lothian as the heavy traffic will be heading towards the city

Half an hour to get to the other side of Edinburgh? maybe in a helicopter, to get to Gullane/North Berwick is pretty much an hour in any sort of traffic from Queensferry.

Takes me on average 45 minutes Livingston to Gullane and I'm west of Edinburgh

Yip, and about an hour and half longer than M74/M6 but viable if you're prepared for the extra journey

Yup, time it right and Livingston to Dunbar can be done in less than an hour. The M8 bottleneck at Hermiston Gait is the time-killer.

It's not a links course but was used for Local Final Qualifying for Muirfield

How about Lanark, good course not far from the M74 and the new motorway improvements should make it easy.

As a member at Elie I'm biased and would like you to visit but unfortunately it's £77 for a weekday round. It could be worth phoning and seeing if there is a off peak deal available.

Weekday round at Crail is £47 up to April 30th. Or there is Anstruther 9 hole which holds its Spring Meeting the week before your arrival so could be in great Nick - therockiesrestaurant.co.uk is meant to be pretty good too at the club

I know, I offered advice as to where to play that would suit his journey home.
