Fife / Lothians area - local knowledge needed

It takes me one hour 15 minutes to get to Gullane from home (Half way between Dundee and Perth) and perhaps an extra 15 minutes during peak times. If I was travelling south of the border I would NEVER take the A/M74 - M6 Much better to take the A 68 or A7 as they are better driving roads and hardly ever have any HGVs on them.

My choice of course to play would be Gullane #2 or the Glen if looking for a links course, or what about West Linton if you prefer an inland course then you could continue down the A702 to pick up the M74 at Abington

Been travelling today.

Thank you all for the very helpful responses and especially d2d for the very kind offer (will PM you direct about).

The traffic advice is much appreciated as I really need to be back in Manchester by about 5pm ish.

Will speak to d2d and work out the logistics, probably hangs heavily on how early I can get out and how best to get back!

If he wants to play in Fife then he's spoiled for choice. Personally I'd go for Lundin, Leven or Elie but they may not be in his price bracket.

Again personally, if l was travelling from St Andrews towards Manchester I'd not be looking to head out to East Lothian. How about West Linton? Good course and (imho) heading in right direction?

That is very quick given that it is 69 miles from Perth and 86 miles from Dundee to Gullane.

The approach to the Edinburgh bypass and the bypass itself are a nightmare at busy times. I have just moved job so as not to have to travel this road. Regularly took more than an hour to travel 23 miles.

During the week best to be on it before 7 or after 9am.

76 miles door to door. Dual carriageway with NSL from my driveway to Prestonpans (apart from the 40 mph over the Forth Road Bridge), and i rarely travel at peak times.

West Linton is a good shout if getting away from links is an option and likewise Lanark

Craig I assume you have played Silloth? If not I think it's the best suggestion so far

If your looking strictly Links then I'd go for Lundin Craig. Its decent and its on one of the routes back to the Motorway, could be tad more than £50 though.
I got on Crail Balcomie mid summer for £36 a couple of years Ago, it was ok..glad I played it but I wouldn't of wanted to pay much more.
Depends what you want but I wouldn't want to be Detouring into East Lothian if you're driving straight back to Mcr.
East Lothian is well worth a trip though, I love the area around Gullane and NB with or without the golf, Shame you can't do another night.

Going to see if D2D & I can make the timings work after his kind offer.

If not, hardly short of potential plan B's now! :)

Thanks everyone
