I'm showing my age if I start with Space Invaders but a couple of others over the years bring back good memories.

DOOM - Still remember playing a 16-man tournament in 1995 after work which we thought was cutting edge technology. We only stopped at 11pm when we realised what the time was and we had trains to get home.

X-WING - Blowing up the Death Star at 2.40am in the morning was something a bit special.

FRONT PAGE SPORTS FOOTBALL - the first really great NFL game with play designing options.

Jet Set Willy for me. My son and I spent countless hours drawing up a map of the connections from room to room and how to get through a room to the next one.

I suppose old school is relative but to me it means these:

Elite - A space game on Spectrum/Amiga which was just lines to represent your spacecraft and dots for stars.
Transarctica - Set in a nuclear frozen wasteland, the sky covered. Exploring and defending from attack in armoured trains!
B17 Flying Fortress - WW2 flight / war sim.
Syndicate - Sort of gang game with a sci-fi twist.
The original SimCity and ThemePark games.
Getting a bit more modern - 688 Attack Sub and Desert Strike, oh and the original NHL games on mega drive!

Got hundreds on emulators, I always think they look really naff nowadays, I wonder how I spent half my life playing them as a teen 

I haven't had a console for easily over 10 years now. When I go round and see my nephews playing their new ones I have no clue how they know what on the screen is interactive or not. When I played the graphics were so bad something that was interactive would have a thick line around it or something. Now they are so photo-realistic it's scary!

Says a lot about old dogs and new tricks. I'm firmly in the camp of the oldies are still the best. I don't get on with any of the console systems these days. In terms of fav games, for me, they are all of the same ilk:

Asteroids
Galaxian
Galaga
Phoenix
Pleiads
Gorf
Scramble
Zaxxon

Have recently found a couple of excellent like games on the appstore. This thread just had me searching the old games, and found some similar versions of these for the iphone, will be trying these out shortly :-)

Had a BBC computer when I was young, and remember playing for hours on :-

Snapper aka pacman
Acadians
Monsters
Fortress
Killer Gorilla
Chuckie Egg
Pole Position
Ultimate games like Sabre Wolf, Knightlore, Alien 8
And the sweet Frak!
Remember a big hit think it was called Elite, just thought it was pants.
Spacemaze was like an early doom iirc

I started on an Amiga, so I had to do a lot of disc swapping.

But some games I remember:
TV Sports Basketball
TV Sports Football
Bubble Bobble
Ikari Warriers
Maniac Mansion
Kick Off
Commando

Later then the EA Sports equivalents of Football and Soccer followed by C&C style games

All of the Xcom Series. Played them all since the early days on a 486 PC and still playing the latest version on my Xbox One.

Not a home console game, but used to love playing Paperboy in the arcade when we visited my Nan in Weston super Mare. The bike handle bars were great
