They have a golf pass (Ayrshire golf pass or summit)and some decent tracks on it plus nightlife will be better than 2 sheep and a salmon...

Bear in mind that you can use Greenfree vouchers at Gullane #2. It's a must play for £20 per head.

Craigielaw is a very nice course as well with very challenging greens, as is Kilspindie.

Only monday - thursday for Greenfree vouchers I think,but you wouldn't be dissappointed.

Belisle in Ayr is a nice track as is Lochgreen in Troon. Darley at Troon is another good course, although it takes no prisoners if you're not playing well.

Thanks for all your advice gents but we've now booked for spey valley flying from manchester instead of a 6hrs+ drive and can't wait for May 2010 now.

Spey Valley, make sure you take in Boat of Garten, thats a must since you are in the area and also have a look at Kingussie if you get the chance.

Boat in my opinion is a must play since you are already in the area.

If you're in Inverness, try and make the effort to play Nairn Golf Club as well. Best greens in Scotland.
