• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Excited!

Summer pairs knockout for me Saturday and Sunday with the latter being my first round of foursomes ever and then a board comp on Monday.

Will definitely have to give your place a go Jim.

Weekend for me long drive tomorrow down to Birmingham playing at West Midlands not the greatest but it will do

Then a big north vs south match at forest of Arden on Sunday with another forum

Can't wait for it!
Same itinerary for me, really looking forward to it, see you in the morning Craig:)

Centenary ball tomorrow night, Mixed 4BBB followed by meal on Sunday, frolics on Monday, then on tuesday its back.. to playing golf again

Lesson tonight to remedy an outbreak of the socket rockets. Hit it better thanks to the pro giving me a drill but no confidence and got a big weekend of comps so decided it needs sorting. Monthly stableford tomorrow

Monday is a big social comp so having a lie in and then working on chipping and putting PM

Don't want to put any more pressure on, but another 0.1 means back to 11!

What's with the 'not playing in social comps' business though!

Been at a Funeral all day today, work tonight. The lads 9th Birthday party tomorrow, work tomorrow night. Pleasington 4BBB Open on Sunday, work Sunday night. A nice lie in on Monday as I'm also working Monday night..... Bank holidays...Who needs 'em...

I'm impressed you found socks to match those strides, hopefully coming down south in September to visit parents so might look up your golf club, I lived in west Ealing in the nineties and didn't know there was a club near!!!

Always welcome fellas, would be my pleasure to show you around the place!

Day off tomorrow, then a board competition on Sunday, and the big one on Monday, final of the winter foursomes. Was hoping for some appropriate winter weather, but it looks like it is going to be hot and sunny.

Also got a summer foursomes match on Wednesday, and 36 holes foursomes at West Hill on Thursday. I am going to be knackered this time next week.

The golfing weekend started last night with a win in the 1st round of the Trilby Tour knockout 5&3.

HID working until 3 today, then we're off camping at Lee Valley Dobbs Wier...beautiful pitch on the corner of the river.

Sunday morning I'm up bright and breezy to drive back to Harpenden for my Summer League comp....HID and our daughter will no doubt have a long lie in, a lazy morning and play at the park, bike ride etc.

Sunday afternoon BBQ then kite flying

Monday bike ride along the canals and a pub lunch...

Can't beat Bank Holiday weekends, especially when it's a good mix of family & golf........just need the sun to come out a bit more....

you can go off people you know.. my Mrs left for a hen weekend in Brighton an hour ago. 2 have been dropped off at school and the other is having a power nap. My weekend is gonna be filled with Nappies, general headaches, fighting, cooking, tidying up and not playing golf. my only light at the end of the tunnel is 18 holes on Monday afternoon... Enjoy while you are young and free Jimbo :)

PS. i do actually quite like my kids, its just when they get in the way of a weekends sunshine golf they wind me up a bit... ;)

Just been through exact same thing myself my Mrs went on hen do leaving me with our three on the masters weekend. Come evening all kids in bed peace and quite feet up beer in hand watch the action and I fast a sleep for 10pm warn out.

Also just seen a note from the course manager that the greens are currently running at 13 and likely will be a shade quicker tomorrow. Played midweek when they were around 11.5/12, going to be scary quick over the weekend but can't wait.

I'm always very wary of comments like this. I'm just back from a 36 hole competition today, played a practice round yesterday and before going out the pro told us the 6th green had been stimped at 13.5 My playing partner and I both thought the greens were slow  I would have said 9-10 as an absolute max!

As Bob said, 13 is Augusta pace.

He had them at 12 yesterday for the comp, and I can assure you they were. Standard scratch yesterday was 73 (par 70) and I'm currently lying 4th after a first round 72, due in a large part to the quickness catching people out.

GM came down to our place recently and commented that we've arguably got the quickest greens around. Like I said earlier, he can get them at that speed because we haven't got the slopes that Augusta has - that, and he's a pretty good greenkeeper.

well done Jim, that's a hefty cut coming:thup:

I'm guessing it's a hefty cut of 0.2.
Either that or net 64 is lying 4th?

No, apologies, 72 nett, 80 gross. So, if anything it'll be a 0.2 cut, but not sure how it works in a 2 day comp (whether they do both cards separate, or do it off your total score)

Lowest gross yesterday was 75 by a guy off 8 who is leading. We had probably 10 Cat 1 guys playing and none of them shot below 76. Was tough yesterday! Second round commences at 12 :)
