European City break in Oct

Rome would be my recommendation. Loads to see and do. Place is just oozing with history and beautiful buildings. Weather should be decent in October too.

I'm doing Prague with my son's stag do at Easter - it should all be repaired and back to normal by October!

Thought about Prague but know from experience that it's all stag and hen do's which is not a bad thing if your on the trip but not when your there for a romantic/few days break.

Prague has two sides to the city - one with all the bars and stag do etc and one with all the history etc - you can go there and have a romantic time and not see one stag do except st the airport

Another vote for Rome, History around every corner, love the place, Florence is also good, but very expensive.
Dubrovnik is interesting, but very compact, you can do it all in a day.
Amsterdam is also good as is Berlin

You cant go wrong with any of them really, pick one you havnt been to and get a guide book, look at the top 10 and thats the basis for your break

Never done one of those but I've heard so many good things about them. Available in loads of cities.

As we backpacked round most of Europe and only had a maximum of 4 days in one city (and sometimes only one full day) we did walking and bike tours in most cities to cover the main highlights - can't remember one being terrible. But the free ones were the most memorable - in Berlin and Munich.

The Fat Tire Bike Tour in Barcelona was epic too.

Not sure if these have been mentioned but in recent years I've been to:

Brno - a miniature version of Prague but fewer tourists and cheaper
Bratislava - charming little city often mistakenly overlooked in favour of Vienna
Kaunas
Split
Oslo

I wouldn't hesitate to return to any of them.

whoa lad keep that quiet, we don't want any of those tourist types here

But I'd argue to avoid all the stag and hen dos you then have to avoid the Old Town in the evening, which kind of will detract from the visit there wouldn't it?

The stag and hen do's don't hang around the old town though - there's only really 1 bar for them there in Coyotes. They congregate around Wenceslas Square and the big club on the Charles Bridge later on - the old town is fine as its mainly restaurants and café bars

Don't recall seeing many stag dos around the old town though ?
