European City break in Oct

I'd recommend without hesitation:-

Madrid (more historical than Barcelona), laid back and quite nice for a capital city.

Berlin, loads of history, we had a good night out as well

Rome, probably the most historical, hard to say if a great night out as never found an area were there were loads of bars.

Prague - Great place for all of the things you list. If you fancy the opera, give me a shout - can give you a cracking option.

Just booked for 5 nights in Budapest, but not going until August, nut glad its highly recommended.

Others that we loved are Seville and Florence.
 
Valencia is another lovely place to visit

Also any main city in Scandanavia

Really enjoyed Rejkavik

Budapest is nice as is Drbovnik (spelling )

Be careful if going to Rome - lots of pick pockets and knifings

Gib's a marmite sort of place. People either rave about it or hate it.

Mind you, we preferred Guernsey to Jersey. :eek: ;)

Having a night in Seville in April, loved Budapest and there is a fantastic drinking area 5 mins from central train station. Re Rome and bars, yup al go along with that.

LP hit the nail on the head re pickpockets in Milan, Rome and Venice. Again had a day in Florence and it was gorgeous with an excellent Jimmy Choo and Pravda factory shop within easy driving distance of Florence.

One of my best mates lives in Guernsey, but it is a bit quiet for me. Mind you I was thirty years younger when I lived in Jersey. Golf courses are better there as well.:ears:
 
Rome, closely followed by....... Rome. Did 10 days there for Mrs Hobbit's 50th. Believe it or not but 10 days wasn't enough. We're back off to Venice this year for a few days. Loved it, and everywhere is within walking distance but more than 4 days would be enough. If you do go to Venice, a visit to Burano is a must. We did 3 trips there when we went to Venice last year.

Having been to both, can't imagine Gib would be any kind of novelty if you live in Jersey. Probably more of a change of scene for someone living inland in a big town or city.

What a lovely thread, 5 pages and nothing but positivity and love.... :)
 
One thing to note about all these great recommendations is that they do differ vastly in cost.

A trip to Budapest, Krakow or Prague would be a heck of a lot cheaper than some of the Italian and Scandinavian cities. Worth investigating if that's a consideration.

Pity its not Easter in Seville at the time you go, it was very special.:thup:

I was there a year ago. Nice around the river and around Sachsenhausen, nice shopping in the Business District, Louis Vuitton etc, but I agree, would never be on my list of go-to places as a couple.

Good point, my suggestion of Reykjavik will be cheap as chips if that helps..:whistle:
 
Not sure if these have been mentioned but in recent years I've been to:

Brno - a miniature version of Prague but fewer tourists and cheaper
Bratislava - charming little city often mistakenly overlooked in favour of Vienna
Kaunas
Split
Oslo

I wouldn't hesitate to return to any of them.

We did a really awesome (and free) walking tour when we went. The guides earned their keep from tips given by the punters...And must have earned loads as they were REALLY good at their job.

Never done one of those but I've heard so many good things about them. Available in loads of cities.
 
Wherever you go to Marshy, see if Dorling and Kindersley do a travel guide for it.

\they are spot on, and normally in local Libraries. Just enough to read on the plane going over, but keep it on you as has everything that you could need in it.
