England's squad list and numbers for Euro 2012: 1 Hart, 2 Johnson, 3 Cole, 4 Gerrard, 5 Cahill, 6 Terry, 7 Walcott, 8 Lampard, 9 Carroll, 10 Rooney, 11 Young, 12 Baines, 13 Green, 14 Jones, 15 Lescott, 16 Milner, 17 Parker, 18 Jagielka, 19 Downing, 20 Oxlade-Chamberlain, 21 Defoe, 22 Welbeck, 23 Butland.

Looks like it's Big Andy Carroll up front with Parker and Gerrard the holding midfielders, Lampard pushed forward with Young and Walcott on the wings...

Hard to have any excitement over that team . esp if he goes with 1 - 11 (ok cept rooney in first two games) lampard & gerrard , has not , does not & will not work in centre midfield ,

on a side note , without all the hype from brittish media they might just surprise a few

.....with the exception of Downing, who is just terrible.

No, he isn't terrible - he's completely and utterly s*ite; a really crap footballer with limited ability and a waste of space in the England squad.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that all the hype about low expectations will lead to high expectations

He's made his choices based on what he feels will do best for England bearing in mind some 'first choices' are unavailable... So wishing the team well with no high expectations...

He's on a hiding to nothing. I just wish the press and public would let him get the Euros out of the way and start judging him when he picks his own squads and not what he's inherited and how he performs in the WC qualifiers

Agreed. Bizarre time to take a job like this on but it was forced upon him. Really hope we put in a respectable performance so he is allowed to get on with the job he was hired to do.

I fear if we tank his life will be made impossibly by our gutter press.

The team will have a very different look come the WC qualifiers IMO

Why couldn't the squad have a "different " look now?

He hasn't inherited anything - he can pick his own squad from those available....he doesn't have to use Capello's cast-offs....

As much as I'm sure he'd have loved to have picked 23 players of his own, he's as aware as anyone that the nucleus of this side have played together at the top level and he needs that level of experience. I'd love to have seen him come out with the likes of Hoult(spelling) from Norwich and even some of the U21 squad but the FA as his boss, the press and the public just wouldn't let it happen. We need to rebuild and I'm sure he'll start to make the likes of Lampard, Gerrard etc more and more fringe players used in the last 20 minutes of WC qualifiers as the new breed come through

Think when he picks his own team. When time allows later. You will see, 1 goalkeeper and 10 fullbacks! Who know he may even be as successful as he was at Liverpool.

I am actually now genuinely excited about Euro 2012. Not because I think England will win but because as each day goes on more younger players are likely to play. We had the 4th youngest squad before Lampard got injured, we may well have the youngest now he's been replaced by Henderson. I thought Henderson looked good at Sunderland but struggled in a struggling Liverpool team with a £20 million price tag hanging round his neck like a millstone.

So Roy didn't pick Ferdinand, has lost Barry and Lampard to injury, Rooney is suspended for the first two games. He looks set to play Rooney in 'the hole' when he returns thank god rather than up top on his own.

I think we'll get knocked out in the group stages BUT at least it will be with young players, playing and gaining experience rather than the old guard who were never going to the next World Cup anyway.

I think there's still a fair bit of wishful thinking going on. Either Parker will be fit, or he'll be replaced, and I think this time it'd have to be Carrick.

So the team against France will be
Hart
Johnson Terry Cahill Cole
Milner Gerrard Parker/Carrick Downing
Carroll Young

I think the youngsters are there for experience, backup in case of injuries, or if there's nothing to lose (IE they'll come on a subs when it's too late to make a difference)
