End of year review

As Stuart Hall once said "I dabbled with the palette without painting the fullpicture". A season made up of so nears and what ifs punctuated with the odd piece of consistancy and a win and a few top threes. I finished in the top 20 of our order of merit so I guess there must have been some degree of solidity.

I played a few different courses and met loads of great people both on line and on the course which has been enjoyable on both counts (ok the forum has been rocky at times but its still the best by miles). I got my handicap down to 11 although 12 is looking very close again and I'm disappointed that my swing hasn't improved as much as I'd hoped with the lessons and effort I put in

All in all I'd probably say a 6.5/10

Overall been a decent year for me. Started at 27.4 and at one stage had that down to 21.3 but crept up at the end of the season to finish on 21.8. On top of that I have had 2 monthly medal wins, plus several top 3 finishes and winnings in the pro shop of about £200.00. Also broke 90 for the first time and shot an all time low of 84 a few weeks ago.

Really cannot complain at that but still disappointed that did not get under 20 as was my aim at the beginning of the season.

Well i only really started playing in september (not counting randomly smashing balls down the driving range) so it has only been a few months for me golfing wise. I was hoping to have lessons over and done with by now but lack of intrest has ment that hasn't happened but i plan to take single lessons early next year. I played Ferndown Forest yesterday and went round in 100 (19 shots better than last time i played there). I doubt i will get out on the course again this year so if that is the case it wasn't a bad way to end the year.

I'm now looking forward to the new year. Start with lessons and decide which club i'm going to join then enjoy and improve my golf as much as possible.

My season has been disappointing started at 16.5 and finished at 17.7, not quite the movement I was hoping for. I did manage to play in 2 good open competitions at Loudoun Gowf Club and Ballochmyle Golf Club. Really struggled with tee shots, having a devastating pull hook. Have generally managed to tame it so things improved a little as the season wore on. I have signed up for a years worth of lessons ( previously discussed) and am committed to practicing a couple of times a week as well as one lesson a month. Play in a sweep that is running through the winter and your best six stableford scores count towards the prizegiving. This gives me an incentive to get out my bed Sat / Sun when it is still dark :(. Swing and general play has improved since this started and things are looking up, just got to keep it going, so heres to 2010. Hopefully meet up with some of the members next year, one game provisionally arranged with the craw.

My season started the end of April last when i finally joined our club handed in my 3 cards for a handicap of 21.
Still playing football i snapped my right achilles tendon in half 3 games before the season was due to finish....I spent all of may ,june and july in a cast and actually managed a few rounds with it on strangely enough to the amusement of some of our club players.....
The cast was removed on the 28 of july and i struggled as i still walk with quite a limp over it....i won 1 comp and dropped the handicap to 20 and really havent played enough since as the weather here has been brutal.....

January holds plenty of prospects for me iv retired from the football and will be starting my own practice regime for the coming season with the goal of dropping my handicap to 12 by this time next season......All going well :D :D

Terrible :( picked up an injury that almost feels like my hand becomes detached from my wrist as I hit the ball, simply swinging the club can be agony.

On the plus side it forced me to get my clubs re-gripped at last... and buy a few new gloves :D

Hopefully the Winter rest will help, if not then next Summer could be my last.

I started the year on 17.6, with an aim to get to around 14 before the turn of the year. I knew I had the time to put a lot of practise hours in during the lighter months but a change of job freed up even more time for me. As I stand here now, I am playing off of 9 and am hitting this quite reguarly off of the yellows now, more time spent on the range over the winter and I am aiming for 5 next year :)

Not bad got cut fom 16.1 to 11.8 but tbh 16.1 was a fake handicap and i have been shooting sub 78s all year (par 70) if not for the very strange rules my club has regarding juveniles of handicap 10-12 i would have been close to single figures.

First full year back after being away from golf for 10 years or so. Despite that I am as low a handicap now then I have ever been 12.8, next year my target is 9.4

Played/practiced a lot this year and next year hope to do the same especially chipping and putting.

Look forward to getting out with you guys in the new year.

Only started playing again this summer after about 20 years out.
Got given 11 as a starting handicap, then in my only 2 chances to lower it shot 98 and 88!! :o :o

My putting has already improved a lot and had a 75 in a non-qualifying comp, so happy with my first foray back into the game.

Trying to decide what my target should be for next year. I'm fairly confident I'll get to single figures but unsure how low a target to set myself, or whether to bother setting a target at all?

Back into the game properly this year after many years as an occassional golfer.
I started as a pay 'n' player - played a few decent courses - Kent and Surrey being the pick.
I joined a club - Redlibbets in North Kent and I'm now working towards getting my handicap. First card was 85 (par 72) - slightly disappointing as I was three over for the front nine, one over for the back nine standing on the 15th tee - then took a nine!!! So, still two cards to go - hopefully will post a couple of good rounds and get a decent handicap.

Highlight of the year - joining this forum........ :D

Started off the year with my first ever handicap of 25 and am now officially 22.7...

however, i did get to the final of the club "c" championships and am now regularly shooting mid 80s but just haven't been able to play in many comps to get my handicap down further.

I went through a period in the middle of summer where i couldn't do much wrong, i just had to learn from the experience to make my swing translate into being able to play golf and get the ball in the hole.

My last four or five rounds have all been low 80s and have scored 76 on the winter layout of the club i've joined for next season (it has more par 3s on it, but good scoring none the less - despite starting with an 8!).

The biggest difference to my golf came in the shape of a putting lesson towards the end of the season. It has transformed my putting averages and i am confident of getting down in at most 2 putts on most greens now.

So, all in all, pretty happy, but just wish my handicap reflected how i have been playing as i don't like to tell people when they ask that i'm a 23 when i know i'm lower.

Looking forward to a couple of months of golf before the new season and new handicap at the new club kicks off. :o)
