Decided to have a little game to myself at my old club, Newbiggin, I was a junior member here for 5 years. Quite a challenging course with lots and lots of rough and hidden greens and tee boxes.

In the past few months my driving has been pretty consistent. 200/250yrd at the best end of things. All of a sudden at Newbiggin balls we flying allover. Must have lost 20 balls and my best drive was a embarrassing 100yrd.

Iron play and my short game was fine.

I feel I must cure this ASAP so lessons it is, No matter how tempting the AG sale is.

Just been up the range with my new Nike VR driver (2nd hand but still a big kiss to my GF for getting me it) and OMG I am worse than when I first started!!

Rob lessons are the way forward, I am now so defunct of any confidence with my driver and respective 'long' clubs that I am feeling very deflated :(

I have had lessons in the past and all I will say is have a series of them, I had 1 here and there but now I am saving a few quid here and there to book a 5 or 10 lesson series

good luck

I've lost all confidence on a teebox now. As I was playing myself and just having an experiment with different clubs and situations. I was finding myself wanting to miss teeing and driving out and just play a 3wood from just forward from the tee.

I played so well at Newbiggin as a junior so maybe this was potentially at the front of my mind :(

What adjustments do you make to your swing/set up when using a driver than say a 5 iron?
I mkae the following:
Ball further forward, paralell to left (middle of) foot.
Spine tilted slightly back, weight slightly back.
Ensure swing bottoms out about 6 inchs before the ball and therefore hits the ball 'on the up'.

Thats the key for me - hit the ball on the up.

I am not convinced that all golfers make changes (other than ball position)that are required for good results.
