If you ask me this is a daft tournament. Imagine if you wanted to see Montgomery and Els and they were playing at different courses. Not only that but who wants to pay money to watch Bobby Charlton or Ruud Gullit playing golf? I'm certainly not interested in watching golfers I could beat myself! It must be a pain in the a*** for the pros going round with these guys (and taking forever to do it).

Good post shanker,
not sure I agree though, 95% of the pros are dull as dishwater robots that have no respect for the fans, they should realise that as professional sportsmen they are meant to entertain us. Remember only us golfers can actually watch golf, for most people they'd rather watch paint dry, unlike football, rugby etc where you dont need to play it to enjoy watching it.
Regarding th euse of 3 courses I agree they should all be on one course each day.
I would prefer to watch Bill Murray or Hugh Grant or Sam Jackson than most of the pros, not cos they're good at golf but the fact I might be entertained by them, rather than getting stared at for rustling a crisp packet by surly pros. There ar eonly 4 or 5 pros in the worls you'd go out of your way to see hit a golf ball.

I like the quirkyness of the Dunhill. It's different to the normal tour golf we usually see. What I also like is that the celebs we see playing are as mad about golf as we golf-monthly forum users.

Hi again. I go away for a few days golf and come back to 250 unread posts! Just caught up now.

Anyway. I went up to Kingsbarns to watch the Dunhill last year and loved it. Watched Hugh Grant and Kyle Maclachlan on the practice range then followed Porridge and Monty and Bill Murray around the course. Was great to see the amateurs beside the Pros. Basically great fun.

The pros were great banter because they were waiting on the tees for 25 minutes and were telling stories on the tees to keep the crowd amused. Saw a completely different side to them.....and it was great to see that Hugh Grant is the only decent amateur in the field. Guessing he must play off 2 or 3. Great player. Everyone else (apart from a few American banker non celebrities) was a hacker. No exceptions. (Even Bill Murray-sorry!)

Must be hard for the pros to concentrate but I guess the £400,000 winner's prize deals with that.

The only unfortunate thing about the event is that the so-called celebrity amateurs are nothing of the sort. Mostly agents, mine-owners, property developers or businessmen who have ploughed money into golf and demanded their reward by playing with their heroes.

Basically, if you have a couple of mill in the bank you might stand a chance of playing....very badly.

Not only is it free entry John, There are free shuttle buses between the courses. I think it´s rude NOT to go when it´s on your doorstep. Unless of course you´re in Menorca. :D

With Doherty taking the cheque with a 67-66-66-71 this is clearly not the case! No americans in the field though - probably to cold for the wimps. I bet they are in Hawaii moaning about the wind.

Good points from Findlay and Finch. Still think, however, that it's boring to watch rich guys playing crap golf.

Did you know he learned his golf in a garage?
At least according to The Swing Factory - book by the guys who make you perfect your swing before you get to go out on a course. Doesn't sound much like fun but looks like it works!

That's right, AliB. I have the book. They also taught Christopher Lee, who's still a good single figure player and can break his age apparently.

Birdman your spelling is all to pot, have you been on the bevy mate !

Pot calling the kettle black belgie.

Your post should have read-
"I agree birdieman and with you junior. Birdieman your spelling is all to pot, have you been on the bevvy mate!"

I count 7 spelling or grammatical errors in YOUR post!
I wasn't on the bevvy, I'm a crappy typist.

I would have said:

"I agree, birdieman and with you, junior. Birdieman, your spelling is all to pot. Have you been on the bevvy, mate?"

Yeh, the book's not bad, though a bit pricey for what it is.
Would love to see HG play.
(Actually wouldn't mind just seeing him - there, that's my girlie moment over).

I think I paid £12 for the paperback version of the Swing Factory on Amazon. I really liked the book, very simple principles, I always go back to it when I overload on swing thoughts!

Apparently Hughie boy was a 28 handicapper when he first went to the swing factory

A shocking sexist comment, if I may say so. I can't imagine any of the male posters here making such a remark about a lady golfer.
I recently played with a couple and wasn't at all distracted by the Spanish lady's long slim tanned legs. Nor did I find it hard to avert my gaze from her pert bottom when she was driving, and it wasn't just because her hubby was there!
Golf is golf and let's leave sexism out of it.

I wouldn't expect Americans to be playing in this event. After all, it's just another European Tour event, pro-am side of it apart.

There were though, actually a handful in the field. Only player of note though was Sean O'Hair.

Wish I'd went along but work commitments then playing golf meant I couldn't get there. Would have loved to follow Di Stewart around for 3 days....shame she'd of been wrapped up to the heavens......
