I've got loads of apps on my phone which I don't use or take advantage of, mainly due to not understanding them tbh.

However, I've read a little about this Dropbox and at face value it looks very handy. So, who's uses it, is it as simple as it comes across to put stuff into and save?

Avoid. It is very easy to use but only 2Gb free storage. Often they push a 40gb free with phones but checking the small print and you see the part that says for 2 years. If you start using it and rely on it then you've got little choice but to pay for it.

If you want a cloud option then consider google drive. It gives 15gb free and if you do feel the need for paid options then it's half the cost of drop box. It's equally easy to use.

You can combine it with Google plus and you can set photos to upload automatically at the full resolution they are taken. It won't make photos public until you share them.

Best free cloud option in my eyes but like everything online be careful what you keep there. Always ask. "Would I be happy to leave this on my coffee table?" If the answer is no then don't upload it.

Also never hurts to ensure you still keep a physical backup of really important stuff on a USB pen or external HDD.

I use google drive and have not had any problems with it. All those things are very simple to use, but it's your choice if yuo wants to put any personal stuff out there. Then again after watching Horizon the other night about hacking it sees that just about all of your information is a couple of clicks away to a semi competent hacker.

Means you can access your stuff from any PC with a net connection, the only problem with this type of online backup/storage is the time required to upload the data in the first place, can take a day or 3 for a few GB to move depending on your broadband speed, but once its done, it updates very quickly

Same with google drive. You can also designate folders on your PC that will auto sync to GDrive. Same with Skycrive and Dropbox I believe.

Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google.. all the same. All of them go across device and ecosystems. So it is mostly down to personal preference. Dropbox started the trend and still is the market leader. Wont be surprised if they get acquired at some point.

I use both dropbox and google drive. both have their merits. Dropbox i have a paid for account with masses of storage as thats for work, Gdrive is personal. Both integrate with the PC very well and show up as additional drives through windows explorer and also both apps are very good allowing access to and from anytime.

Google tops it for me just, more storage free, integration with Gmail and i use chrome, so it all works very well for me.

I'll look at some of the other things mentioned as not heard of them before. Don't want to pay for anything, more a case of simplifying things but if it looks more trouble than its worth, I'll just plod along like I have.

I use Dropbox and find it pretty useful. I use it for documents I want to have access to when travelling - copies of families passports, and some work documents I want to work on without taking my laptop home, and it is easy to use and I get no pressure to buy more. Works very well on the iPhone as well as the computer.

Next time were together I'll pull you to one side for 5 minutes and you can show me what apps to delete and what might be worth looking into, if you don't mind. Got stuff like G+Photo's, Hangouts, Watch, Google+, Connected Media, Music, Play Movies to name a few that I don't know what they can do or if their worth looking into, but, I would like to download some music/tunes but wouldn't know where to start!

you know it makes sense! my 4yr old can use my iphone and ipad! really is childs play!!
