Hi All,

Had a go of the Superfast Driver on the machine at AG, I don't like hitting into a net, but my Driving Range don't have them in stock yet. My swing speed was coming out at 104-107MPH, but carry distance was saying 230 yards. How accurate are these machines, as my driving is one of the better parts of my game. I'm not up with the 320yds+ Monsters on here, but I usually carry my driver over the 250 yard marker at my driving range, and regularly hit par 5's in 2. I'm a little confused now, as if the machine is accurate, and I am only carrying the ball 230 yards, I may as well use a 3-Wood off the tee!!!
 
AG = rubbish assessment. A lot of the guys in there don't know how to operate the machines let alone analyse the data. I wouldn't trust anything coming from them and would rather go to a pro or a range with the capability to measure your swing. Don't forget though that speed is only a small part of it and you need to look at things like sping, smash factor etc to get a true picture

at that speed your looking at 230-240 carry running out to 260 -265 so it aint that far out
 
I agree with homer. Despite me buying from there in the past, I don't think they have a clue some of them. Especially after seeing what our pro has set up in the back half of the pro shop. It puts AG to shame especially with the reasonable prices on offer too.
 
107mph launched at approx 14° will give you a carry of 257yds at 2600rpm,.... apparently.

104mph you're looking at 247yds with 11° launch but more spin to get it airborn (3000rpm)



In 'forum terms' those distances are a firm 7-iron :D
 
Maybe it shows that the superfast doesn't suit you?

With that swing speed a carry of 250 isn't unreasonable in good conditions with optimal launch angle and spin. Maybe the club you tried didn't have those?

Out of interest, have you measured your range on Google Earth? I did mine and the markers aren't very accurate! :eek:
 
I'm no expert on all of this kind of stuff at all, but surely it is not possible to determine carry distance (even very approximately) with only the club speed and launch angle. I guess with ball speed and launch angle you could make a pretty good estimate... but like I said I really don't have a clue! Am i missing something?

In response to the OP those simulators at AG are stupidly inaccurate imo, despite what they tell you. I went into the one on Finchley Rd recently to try out the superfast and the Superdeep. I had just been to the range beforehand and was not swinging it well at all, but gave it a go anyway. I hit like 10 shots with each and every single drive was CARRYING over 310 including one or two that carryed over 340 lol.

Also they all had this beautiful little 5 yard fade and none more than 10 yards off the center. I haven't hit a fade in like 2 years and I can hardly hit two fairways in a row nevermind 20!!! Ridiculous. I asked the guy how accurate it was to see his reply and he said it was spot on lol.

The swing speed and launch angle stuff seemed reasonably (though not totally) accurate. as it was fairly similar to numbers Ive got before on launch monitors but you have completely ignore all the distances and all that, IMO...

The stupid thing is, even though I knew that it was ridiculously, stupidly far off, part of me wanted to buy the driver.... just in case!! :D

It's an approximate, 230yds might be right depending on the smash factor of the impact. The figures above are optimal.
 
Don't forget though that speed is only a small part of it and you need to look at things like sping, smash factor etc to get a true picture

Whilst I don't really understand what all the numbers tell you I would agree with this!

When I was fitted the other week the R11 was swinging with the highest "smash factor" by far (1.5ish v 1.35ish with the club I ended up with) but was not going as far.

I was incredibly uninformed about all this before last week (a club is a club....) and whilst I now klnow the advantages of it I also wouldn't pick a club based purely on the numbers. If I had it would have been the R11 for me and that wasn't as long or accurate as the 910 was.

So many muppets are obsessed with distance and yardages, have a close look at your dispersion rate, accuracy, ball flight and consistency.
