Driver - Topping

Had been having some issues with driver - mainly not getting enough height and at a lesson a few weeks ago, concentrated on ball position; slight dip of right shoulder and a well teed-up ball etc.

Anyway, since then been trying to follow advice but having real problems topping the ball even to the extent of the ball carving a furrow, any farmer would be proud of, a couple of feet in front of the tee peg. This problem never happened on the range.

Last week realised that the max height on the range auto-tee was significantly lower than that used on the course but 'the mind' said lowering will only make topping worse.

How wrong - lower tee - no topping

Where's the sense in that

I have an 8.5 degree driver yet I still tee the ball fairly low. Teeing the ball high means I gotta focus on coming up on the ball a little earlier so as not to hit it straight up in the air.
Whatever works...

You need to focus on a sweeping action catching the ball at the start of the upswing and not the bottom of the arc. I'd suggest a look at the ball position first to see if it has crept too far forward.

Sometimes topping off the tee can be caused by staying behind the ball and your weight not transferring , a slight reverse pivot if you like. Commit through to a nice finish

I think it will be something minute like ball out of position or maybe yourself trying a little too hard to use tips given, unless you see someone who can see your problem, my advice would be to start again, relax, concentrate on striking the ball a short distance then increase that distance each shot till you get your old feel and confidence back.

Thanks for the replies - I was not clear enough in my post.
Everything is fine now but I still cant understand how lowering my tee peg (significantly) has stopped me topping!

Because the ball is teed lower, your brain tells you to stay down on the ball through impact, therefor not topping it. Clever brain :)
