With my driver I am told by those that I play with that I'm quite steep with my takeaway thus causing me to hit down on the ball on the odd occassion producing a lower ball flight, although as the round goes on things improve (don't ask me how).

Please does anyone have any advice on a couple of drills to stop this.

Focus on maintaining the triangle shape formed at address with your arms and shoulders. As you take the club away (slowly) try and maintain that triangle shape as you move the clubhead back without starting any wrist break. That should keep the clubhead low and improve your width of backswing and keep you on a shallower plane, crucial with a driver.
Oh and initiate the takeaway with your shoulders, not your arms and especially not your hands.
Those first couple of feet are the key to a solid swing.

A popular drill for this is to put a ball behind the ball on the tee (8 inches?) and on the takeaway to move this other ball backwards and off the matt. I haven't any experience of it, but I know loads of folk who've done it.
