All our main comps and medals are drawn (which I much prefer as get to play with a broad range of people). You can put which hours slot you want to play and early or late requests are always fulfilled where possible. In addition we get weekend stablefords, midweek medals and stablefords which are free format, sign in in the shop on the day of the comp before heading out.

At previous clubs have been non drawn and used to find these clubs were far more clicky with people keeping within their own small groups and rarely mixing

If you never have drawn competitions, this can lead to the same 4-ball playing together every comp. This introduces risks ranging from "loose application of the rules", through "acceptance of whatever score the player says" to "deliberate cheating". Your usual 4-ball may be totally innocent of any of those possibilities but could you say that of every 4-ball that always plays together?

Every weekend comp is draw, with players being able to request a 'rough' time. During the summer we have 12 midweek comps which are register in the shop then play with whoever you like.

I don't think I would join a club without drawn comps.

I remember another forum member say this happened at his club - when the same 3 ball played together with no outsiders, there was always some good scores from that group.

sheets with tee times - put your name down as an individual/pair or a 3 ball. Majors are drawn as are other roll ups. Works well tbh and as we are a small club there are never any issues

Our only drawn comp is the Club Championship.

When I started reading this thread it was with the opinion that 'why can't I choose who I play with every week.' Surely it should be an individual's choice who he plays with, and when. After all its amatuer golf, not the crown jewels. That said, I've pretty much always just either stuck my name in an empty slot and hoped someone else decent puts their name down, or just put my name in a spare slot based on time rather than who. However, now I'm of the opinion that I'd like to see a greater number of drawn comps if only so other members got to meet/see different members... but it still comes back to why tell someone who they have to spend their spare time with...?

Ive SEEN examples of this...........probably most of us have, especially concerning Rules

Also at my previous Club, one particular 4 ball, whenever altogether, atleast 3 out of 4 recieved cuts......and a higher than 'normal' percentage of the 2's Sweep Cash................but unusually NOT when there were ONLY 3 of them + A.N.OTHER, or 2 of them + 2 Others...................

Like Ive said earlier, Id like to see a few Drawn Comps at my place, but most I know prefer to play with their Mates, which, with money being tight and spare time becoming scarce too, it is the ONLY time some get to socialise with their mates................so I don't Blame them for that

Totally agree. Have seen cases of these groups getting good scores regularly and witnessed some very odd interpretation of drops etc. What can you do though? Unless you are going to run booked times throughout the day then for the most part a booked section and a roll up works pretty well. To be fair a lot of the roll ups go in a couple of swindles and the balls are thrown up anyway
