We are considering a upgrade on all of the windows in our house, pretty sure the ones in there have been in a very long time.

Glazing salesman seem to have a very bad rep, and it seems to be a minefield of who to go to.

Anybody have any companies they would recommend, or any to avoid based on your experiences?

Whatever you do get at least 3 quotes
Do your homework it could save you 1000s
Beat them down on price especially if you invite someone into your home as they will have plenty of wiggle room

Ask Beezerk [ Martyn ] for recommendations, he's in the know he maintains, repairs and installs the window making machinery all over the country [ world ].

I am but I have internet access to keep an eye on you all ?

Where are you based Steve?
Your choice depends on a lot of factors, personally I'd stay away from the larger companies as they generally use a lower quality product.
im in Southampton. Heard horror stories from “nationwide” companies, but that’s down to social media and google.

Hard to gauge what it should cost when their first quote is 30k, but I’ll bring that straight down to 20. Makes me think they could do it for less than 10.

From bitter experience of losing a lot of cash, get 3 quotes. search for reviews online, go with the best company that does not insist on a deposit. That should ring an alarm bell that they are not that secure. (i didn't take my own advice and lost 20% of a lot of Windows....)

Yeah the larger "nationwide" companies are more set up for large output, lower standard windows for new build houses, knock em out cheap and fast.
Southampton is a fair bit out of my area but I can ask the lads in that area when I get home if you want.

Who did you use out of interest?
it was years ago Beezerk 10 plus. He was recommended by someone on the street and quite frankly was a cowboy. Both back patio doors. You can see daylight through them. Spoke to a guy who said the glass needs taking out and the doors re hanging..
When we had the Patio door put in the front room he came out twice to re hang it. It was rammel, eventually he rang the company who supplied him ( Vale windows) and they came out and re hung it. The guy who mae said “ I don’t know why we sell to him as he is more trouble than a little”. Not what we wanted to hear. Ave no problems with Vale but he was hanging doors off a handicap of 28.
I kid you not but 15 mins ago I had a brochure hand delivered off a guy from Anglian. They have 50% off ??

Vale eh, made by our machines then ?

Sorry to take this off slightly but how long would you expect double glazing to last? We had 2 windows installed this year for our loft but rest of house must be coming up to 15 years old.. still full working order and well kept

If they are still solid and mechanically sound I'd leave them as is. What could fail is the glass unit, these could be replaced separately though if you're still happy with the frames.
Some of the new colours been made now are really nice though and quite tempting ?
