Playing with dear wifey yesterday for a gentle sunday morning knock.

Started off like a house on fire - 1 under gross for front nine and still level par standing on the 15th tee. At this point we catch up the 4 ball in front. Being considerate types they let us through almost straight away. Anyways, a semi shanked 4 iron tee shot, duffed recovery and a miserable attempt at an up and down later I walk off with a double bogey 6. At least we're now through the 4 ball.

Unfortunately, on the 16th tee (par 5) we now catch up another 4 ball who again very kindly let us through. A fat 3 iron, a shanky wedge and 3 putts and I now add 8 to the collection!!

Par last 2 holes for a fairly depressing 5 over round. I never did like rushing to get through a group...anyone suffer with the same when rushing to get through???

Had this conversation yesterday week , a two ball caught us up just as we had tee'd off the 16th, we offered them to tee off with us and we could walk up together and they could play through , they gladly accepted ,

as we got to the balls i said to the guys now dont rush to get ahead take your time and play your normal shots (courtesy not advice before someone throws that in) both of them hacked their next couple of shots and seemed to rush their putts ..

After the round i was chatting to them they both agreed they should have stayed behind as they were playing ok & had messed up 16& 17 .. i told them it had often happened to me hence the comment not to rush ..

I tend not to do it as much now ..

Almost a cert that at least one of the players let through will duff the next shot. It must be one of the golfing gods laws that state though shalt not go through.
