I'm kinda surprised that no-one has picked up on this one...so I'll start off.

Did anyone see the BBC interviews with Donald & Westwood before the off today? Basically both were asked how difficult it had been with the interrupted play and the weather yesterday.

Donald (paraphrasing) " It wasn't hard for me at all. I'm just playing golf. But it was hard for all the fans, the green staff having to work from 2am, the volunteers etc."

Westwood; "It's not ideal preparation at all. I had to hang about for 12 hours yesterday and that's very tiring. I'm just gonna treat today as preparation for next week as best I can" No mention of the hard work the staff had put in making the course playable etc

Now, I have to confess to being a bit of a Westwood fan before today. I thought he was a nice, down-to-earth lad with no airs and graces, good sense of humour (great Twitter stuff), and a proper attitude to the game. Sorry, pal, you're off the Xmas card list after that prima donna nonsense. What about a bit of respect for those who battled like trojans overnight to make the course playable for you, the molly-coddled millionaire golfer. How was it different for the rest of the field and where's the respect for the tournament in it's own right?

Donald. Class act and worthy No. 1.
Westwood. Bit of work required in more ways than one.

So much more to being Number 1 than just being Number 1.

The way Luke's playing/behaving he's going to take some catching.

Yep got to agree,

Seen a few of westys interviews in the past few months and he is coming across as moody and a tad obnoxious. Seems like he cant be bothered with the interviews these days. I suppose they get a bit fed up being asked the same questions all the time, but how hard is it to smile and be respectfull of the fans, the course and the hundreds of staff that make these things happen.

Poor form i think

i think its the smug look that hacks me off with him nowadays ,where as darrren clarke and paul mcginley are to blokes, civility costs nowt even if your number 2 in the world.

Didn't see that but nice to see Donald has as much class off the course as he does on it.

Always liked Westwood but have to admit he is starting to come across a bit smug.

Have never really warmed to Westwood for the reasons mentioned above...I think he's always been like that. Donald comes across as a chap you could easily share a pint with. :D

Didn't see the interview but from the OP both were asked "how difficult it had been with the interrupted play and the weather yesterday"
Donald answered like a PR man's dream, Westwood answered the question straight, Donald's answer sounds better but does that make Westwood smug?

I've got time for both men, they're good blokes, they're British and they're numbers one and two in the world!

Well said.

I agree with you.

I think others may have mentioned the word smug. I just thought it was rather self-centred. He implied that it had ruined his prep for the Open. Ooh, sorry.

I agree that some comment should have been made for those who worked so hard on the course and the fans. Yes it is PR speak but it is expected and can appear a little discourteous to not tow the line on these things.

Not so much in agreement with the respect for the tournament angle. Surely the organisers know that the Scottish Open is just that, a warm up for The Open. Do we honestly think that there would be so many big names in the field if it was not used as a warm up for The Open. If it ceased to be that then it would become just another tour event. There would have been, I suspect, serious complaints if they had run the tournament over into Monday and disrupted final preparations for The Open. All of the interviews with the organisers on Saturday afternoon were that they were in charge and would enforce play on the Monday if needs be. That tone changed pretty quickly and then the reduction to 54 holes was announced.

The Scottish Open is a warm up for The Open and, all Westwood appears to have been is honest that it was not giving him what he wanted in the build up to a Major.

Agree that it was being used as a warm up for many, Greg ...but the bad weather was whose fault? Why moan about it? Thought he could have shown a bit more class by just getting on with it like everybody else and acknowledging the hard work done by others for him and everyone else in the field. Wouldn't have anything to do with a bad second round, I'm sure. He'll have lost a few fans up north, I think.

done the same when he lost to poulter, always thought of westwood as an ok huy but after that intreview when he lost to poulter in the matchplay i thought he was a bit of a ***, sure he had a sly dig at donald not that long ago aswell

Luke seems like the sort of guy who after you've just been soundly beaten by you still say what a nice bloke he is. I would love him to win The Open.

Westwood? Never liked him for some reason.

I think it shows the difference between the two men.
Luke was walking the course yesterday as if he never had a care in the world.
Westwood looked like he had the weight of never winning a major firmly on his mind.
Myself i have been so impressed with Donald lately on and off the course, and IMO deserves the no1 spot.

haven't they moved the scottish open to a links type course to try and attract more big names to use it as a warm up for the open?
i'm a fan of westwood and donald, sounds like lee was just giving an honest answer.
