I was due to caddy today for an Aussie client whom I'd caddied for yesterday at Longniddry GC. He was over here on holiday on his own and we got on well while I was carrying for him yesterday.

So I duly turned up at a rather busy Luffness GC this morning. When he returned to the carpark after sorting out his greenfee he asked if I had MY clubs in the boot of my car. Sadly no, I said. The secretary had suggested that he may be held up playing on his own given the number of fourballs that had just teed off. My client had then asked if it would be ok to play with his caddy!

5 minutes later the secretary had sorted me out with his sons set of clubs and we were off. Course number 118 for the list and a great day in great company.

Struggled a bit at first with the borrowed set of clubs. An 8.5 degree stiff shafted Titleist 909 D2 driver. No woods. Nike blade irons from 2-SW. Sadly I had a 7 at the 9th and 18th for an 84 in pretty breezy conditions....but it's better than work.

Given that I got paid to play golf on a course which costs a bomb normally and got bought lunch and a pint afterwards do I now lose my amateur status?

;)

Now if only every day was quite like this.

Big up to Luffness for keeping me and their client very happy. Much respect.

:D

Lucky sod!

Hope you ordered the most expensive lunch and a pint of malt to wash it down.

Lucky indeed, always great to read of others good fortunes !!! Well played aswell John , especially with clubs like that !! How did you get on hitting the blade 2i ??????

Yes, I am a jammy bee. The green fee is normally £75.

No, I only ordered the nachos (at Craigielaw along the road as no caddies or peasants are allowed into the clubhouse at, what some refer to as, "Muirfield-lite")

Hit the 2 iron half a dozen times off the turf and I'm damned if it has a sweet spot. Easier to find a g-spot, methinks. Straight... but I'll stick with the Mizzy MP Fli-Hi one I have, thanks.

No, I only had to carry my own bag. We had a wee game of matchplay. Good one, too.

The borrowed driver was a bit of a struggle as I have a 10.5 degree regular. Lost a ball on the 9th thanks to a duck hook I had gotten rid of. The other 7 on the last was partly thanks to me trying to be smart out of a pot bunker. Was trying to catch as little sand as possible, thinned it into the bank and it rebounded off me and stayed in. Penalty. Otherwise great in that wind.

I'm sure the clubs were custom fit for a guy 7 inches taller than me though. With a wedge in my hand the butt of the club was nearly hitting my navel.

And no, Murph. No ladies are permitted there so it wasn't an issue, thank God.

Truest fastest greens I've played on in a long long time, though. Superb.

Great day and a very generous gesture from a very nice guy. Boy, could he hit the ball. Used to play cricket for Queensland so he had a lovely natural swing and tonked it for 6 many times.
