Does your pro shop take clubs in part exchange & sell-on those used clubs?

my local pro will give you credit for whatever golf bidder will give him (he gets a slightly better offer than joe public apparently and once agreed with GB you get credit immediately) so an OK deal...

My pro is not interested in taking part-ex's, I do not blame him though. Since he took over from the old boy that retired last year he has emptied the shop of all the old second hand crap that was in there and has fitted it out really nicely selling Ping & TM clubs also Vokey & Cleveland wedges. What he is happy to do though if you have something half decent is sell them on for you. Basically tell him what you want for them, he then will try and sell them for what he can and pockets anything above what you are wanting for them. Which is only fair seeing as he is selling them in his shop for you.

I may be alone in thinking this but to my mind second hand gear may be the way forward for a lot of pro shops. If the mark up on new clubs is poor or the pro cannot compete with internet prices then second hand gear may be a way forward. The pro can control the mark up as he can dictate what he pays and what he sells for. Also, the one thing that most online retailers cannot offer is trade in so golfers are willing to pay a little more in a pro shop for being able to get rid of the old club at the same time.

I am not sure that our pro shop deals in second hand gear but I look at the situation and think that I am more likely to spend some cash on a second hand bargain than I am to pay over the odds for new kit.

I used to work in golf retail GB, and the price that you have to offer for most second hand clubs means that usually the punter turns away in disgust. Your idea is great in theory, but the seller always massively over-values what his current gear is worth to anyone else.

that and the apparently readily available 2nd hand premium prices represented by ebay headline prices! The true reality is that there is a ready 2nd hand market though, which means that any business model that relies on being able to "dictate 2nd hand value" is rather flawed - the net base value is there for all to see, and the base selling price (best price) for the new purchase goods is also easy to establish (at any one time) so the opportunity to make additional margin on either isn't exactly obvious to me.
