Does Nick Faldo still play golf???

Glad I'm in the majority of thinking he's alright then. When you consider him against most of the other presenters then it seems having a personality makes you a tit. Many people just don't like a professional who has achieved at the highest level having an opinion on other people playing golf.

Perhaps years of the old boys club network amongst presenters who daren't say owt against another pro has made everyone used to bland commentary. Look at the abuse whathisname got last year for slagging off (quite rightly in my opinion) McIlroy's caddy, and for Gary Neville for being a breath of fresh air amonst footie commentators.

About him as a commentator or his role as Ryder Cup Captain, if it's the latter then I am sorry he was and always will be know as Thee Worst Ever Ryder Cup Captain.

I think the latter is generally accepted. His commentating is up to your point of view. But he is our most successful Major winner of many moons and does a lot more for golf and is much more human and honest in interviews than many trumped up golfers. Tiger Woods / Rooney / Terry are 'tits', I don't think Faldo is. It's always easy to flag up the failings of our greatest golfing success in many moons. Perhaps if he was a beer drinking under-achieving lad we'd all love him. Personally, I prefer winners and give them the respect they deserve despite their minor flaws.[/QUOTE]

Totally agree

Faldo was a great golfer and I think people forget how good he actually was.As a man he does come over as very selfish which is evident from reading he`s biog "Life Swings".What did Alliss say about him "He`s a product of a spoiled childhood" seems to sum him up well.Saying this the guy was very good for british golf back in the day and he`s Faldo foundation has been good for youngsters.

After reading some of the comments regarding Faldo,i've changed my view.
No longer do i think him a tit...........................i now think he's a grade 'A' Bawbag.
He was a spoilt only child, and he still acts like one.For every person who say's they'd admire his achievements and work ethic, you'll probably find 3 or 4 more who wouldn't give him the time of day.
Great golfer, but zero personality, and a win at any cost mentality that i could never warm to.

Perhaps you could, however, warm to the likes of Woosnam, Torrance, Lyle etc; each of whom had as much talent as Faldo as younger but for a variety of reasons chose not to make the most of their talent.
As for commentators perhaps you prefer Ewen (oh Tiger I love you!!!) Murray or Colin Montgomerie whose inspired captaincy was apparently the sole reason for the Ryder Cup victory.
No we must never forgive Faldo for being successful rather than a p**shead!

What do his drinking habits have to do with this argument or my point of view ?
And where exactly did i mention my like or dislike for those you have named above ?
Faldo isn't a very popular Golfer, both amongst golf fans and his peers. Why do you think that is ?

Not very popular with his peers? Perhaps that was because he kept beating them. Certainly the current generation i.e. Donald, Rose, Casey, McIlroy etc; don't share your view.
And how can you be so certain of the view of "golf fans". Sorry but you sound as if you are trying to justify your own prejudices.

Not trying to create a who's best scenario but coming from the mouth of a tour pro re Ryder Cup Captaincy is the majority thought Faldo was a total walloper whereas the majority thought Sir Colin was a fantastic man.

Well I like him.. He was a winner, and as a commentator, he says it as he sees it.. If he's wrong then fair enough, but I for one am sick of ex pro's commentating like politicians... And I don't particularly care if i'm in the minority...

What we might be forgetting is that when Faldo was Captain it was well known that the guys were not playing for the Ryder Cup but the Faldo all about me Faldo Cup, now know as the Faldo Flop Cup. I don't even think there is a player who played for Europe speaks well of captaincy that alone sums the (.) up in my book.

Easy to see what side of the border you lie on. Colin Montgomerie a fantastic man?!?! He makes Faldo seem like Darren Clarke.

Fantastic golfer, lousy with the media. And after his "heart of his bottom" comment after winning the Open at St Andrews they went after him with a passion.

Ryder Cup Captain; again not one of his pinnacles but also a Ryder Cup in which Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia & Padraig Harrington failed to win a single point. So should the same vitriol be aimed at those 3 for their performance that week? His team selection for the Saturday wasn't great but the Team finished the day winning more points than the Americans.

As a commentator he's not my choice by a long way but I'd put him ahead of Monty as a commentator.

We can all throw around unattributed quotes. I certainly know one Ryder Cupper who was amazed by the amount of credit for winning at Celtic Manor Monty attributed to himself. A touch of the Steve Williams syndrome was how it was described!

Can I ask if you have met him and spent time with him. I have been very lucky to have spent a few hours with him on a couple of occasions and he was so nice and so helpful. He helped me alot when I first turned pro too.

I haven't met the man but addmire his achievements. Open Championships and Masters aren't won by bad golfers. He might not be the best commentator in the world but then again, neither is Monty but evryone seems to like him.
