i played on my own yesterday, caught up with a 3 ball on the 3rd - they let me through, a 2 ball let me through on the 5th and another 2 ball stood by for me on the 8th. all very civilised and polite except that, when this happens to me, i start to rush my shots so as not to hold them up any more than necessary. consequence - crap play for several holes. as there was a queue on the 9th tee, i hopped across to the 12th tee, no-one behind me and it was not until the 18th that i caught up with a group - so for these 7 holes (12-18) i was totally relaxed and shot 4 over par for them which, for me, is brilliant!! does this happen to others????

PS - hope no-one tells me off for skipping holes 9 - 11 !!!!

Me and a mate got let through a 4 ball last week, promptly sliced my tee shot into the woods then 3 putted... Need to chillax!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who completely explodes under the pressure of even the smallest gallery - even if I know full well they couldn't do any better!

No, slow play is what fooks me up. I hate getting knocked out of a rhythm. If i stand about on a tee for 5 or more minutes I start to get frustrared and grumpy. Standing about riles me and has a detrimental effect on my game. Could happily play through all day.

I actually don't mind being let through tend to try to stay relaxed, doesn't always work but hey ho. However one of my playing partners I've known him litterally to slow right down and hang back if it looks like we maybe let through as he tends to almost panic and rushes everything when we're called through have even known him to develop a long run of shanks on the hole were called through right up until he relaxes can take a while sometimes..

Canary where abouts in kent you from?

Must admit I can fluff the tee shot when let though. Play a 5 wood or long iron now so no problem then. As even a bad on is not that bad. I hope!!

Tonbridge - I play at Lamberhurst if you know it?

Where do you play Fader?

For my sins just out at Deangate at the moment am a member there as was ideal for me getting into golf am looking at a new membership this year. Lamberhurst have heard good things about there would like to play there sometime, I know my brother and oldman played there and speak highly of it.

Last summer I recall (while playing off 15) I was two over gross through 7 holes while playing alone. Got let through and promtly took a double.

not really. At my place it seems you only get let through as a last resort anyway so it's always a relief.

I can't remember crumbling after being let through. I did almost hit someone though. Dog leg left, I hit a straight one towards the guy who had waved us though on the corner of the dog leg. He was standing about 6 feet off the fairway. I shouted fore, he looked up rooted to the spot and the ball pitched 2 feet to his right !! I thought I was going to kill him !!

that would have affected his game a bit !!:(

The key is to go through your own shot routine for each shot. If you try and run through smacking each shot as you go so not to hold up those letting you through you'll alway hit poor shotsin those situations.
Like someone else said as well, if your not in a rush in general just take your time in your own slot. If I go out on my tod for 9 holes, theres 3/4 drives, a few approach shots and last half a dozen pitch/chips into each green

If anything I tend to play better. I'm forced to concentrate more so I don't look an even bigger pillock and this generally makes for a better shot.

dont really mind as im well used to it. sometimes you end up rushing a bit as someone said as to not keep the nice group of peeps back more than you should. yeah, feels great to thump one down the middle, not even watch it, pick up the tee and say thanks lads cheerio, cool as ice, when really your doing a wee jig inside. :whoo:

If I'm closing in on a group in front and providing I've no one on my tail I'll just play a couple of balls or chip and putt on each green and let the group in front carry on. Playing solo is about enjoying the course, having time to think and chilling. I don't really keep a score but just try a few thing out without the pressure of card and pencil and so prefer to have the time to do so without rushing to play through
