i think it also applies to own clothes that you wear to work. But if you have to wash it yourself you may be entitled to some money back from mr tax man. It dates back 6years and i think the maximum is about 1700 but averages about 500 i think.

Here are some notes mrs got me off the net but if you are unsure what to write i am happy to pm/email you my actual letter jus dont want to put it here due to personal details being on it.

If this is your first time claiming a tax allowance or the amount you paid out was more than £1,000, then you'll need to claim the money back by post.

Claiming for first time - need to do it by post

Send a letter to the tax office on your payslip/P60, or to the generic address HM Revenue & Customs, Pay As You Earn, PO Box 1970, Liverpool, L75 1WX.

Write 'Repayment Claim' on the envelope to speed things up.

The letter should include and mention the following

Employer's name and address and dates of employment for the past six years

Your occupation, job title and industry sector

Details of any laundry or cleaning services provided by your employer, if any

Details, if any, of payment or vouchers provided by your employer to cover laundry or other costs

Why your uniform can't be worn outside of work (eg, it includes the company logo)

Whether you want the rebate to be deducted from the current year's or you would like a cheque

You will then be sent a letter telling you how much you're entitled to. It could take around 5 weeks to process your claim.

You can also claim a percentage of electricity used to wash the workwear and for wear and tear on your washing machine.

yeah i think its all included in the rebate. Theres an amount per week i think these where just some bullet point type things HID got for me off the net.
She got all the information form someone called martin lewis money saving expert
ive never heard of him but she seen him on tv or something

Guy I work with breaks it all down and puts in for everything. His missus is an accountant mind lol

I just do the P97 for travel.

They will probably pay it without questions as a 'Self Assessment' claim. Beware though, they may query it at a later date so keep any receipts or information you may have to support your claim.

What sort of figure's would we be looking at ? I have to wash my uniform everyday (sweatshirt,2 t shirts, trousers, hat) which i'm guessing is less than one washing machine load per day?

Had some dealings with this myself recently, on behalf of a friend or two.

You're more likely to have an amendment to your tax code, so you're paying less tax, than receive a cheque in the post.
