Do you regularly use a 4 iron?

I have a 4i and a 3i in my bag and I have got to say I almost never use them. I tend to reach for my hybrid club and take a partial swing or choke down the grip a little.

It's all about my confidence (or lack of it) in hitting my longer irons. And that is something I'm going to be working on down at the range this winter!

Longest iron I have, as next up is a 12deg rescue. Love it for nailing a low approach which I want to run up onto the green.

My faith in it was reqarded when a drilled one to 20feet on the last for a solid par (and win) yesterday

Recently upgraded my Fazer starter set, which came with 3 & 4 as hybrids, to my JPX800's, which came with 4 iron. I bought the 3 hybrid at the same time, determined to use the 4, but ended up getting the 4 hybrid yesterday.
I still intend to master the 4 iron, but at my level seem to feel more confident with a hybrid.

Other than gap and pitching wedges, the 4 iron is probably my most used club in the bag! Always found it very easy to hit off the grass and it's my safety club when taking an iron off the tee. Seems I'm the minority on this one but there you go.

I use mine alot.

Mainly for a punch draw when I'm stuck in the logs. Sometimes I use it to chip around the green. Hardly ever use it for a full shot. Not for any particular reason. I just don't find myslef at 180 very often.

I do not think I have ever owned a 4 iron (may have been one with a previous set of irons but not sure). I have always had the hybrid equivalent and at present it is my favourite club in my bag. I have no fears about hitting a 4 iron, it is just that my sets have always been 5-PW so I have always opted for a hybrid as the next club up.

Like GB72 my irons begin at 5 - however as has been alluded to in previous threads one company's 4 iron may have a similar loft to another comapny's 5 iron and so on. e.g. the loft on my 5 iron is 25 Deg yet the Ping i15 4 iron is 24 Deg. This begs the question when is a 4 iron not a 4 iron?
