.....have you gone down the standalone system that you can plug a smart phone or iPod into?

I've got a 5 piece Kenwood system, with two Wharfdale Diamond speakers, had it for well over 25yrs and it still sounds brilliant, the amp is way to powerful for the speakers and I've never had it turned up full blast, barley gets past 50%, 6 cd auto changer, with graphic equalizer, twin tape deck and RDS receiver.

It's big, bulky, but I love it, took a lot of saving to get it and it would be the last thing I would sell of all my possessions.

Just taken our system to the tip on Monday. Got a couple of hundred CD's that will be following them in a few days. Its 3 years since we played anything on the stack, preferring to stream everything with the ipad and onto a Bluetooth speaker.

Don't just bin them, sell them on music magpie or similar, at least get a few quid back

Music Magpie is a good shout, I got rid of a few dozen DVD's and got about £30 back, it's not a lot as it depends on the condition of the CD, but you might be able to get a nice bottle of single malt or some wine when you get to Spain.

Don't bin em, they do have a value.

Still got my Technics system from 23 years ago along with a pair of Castle speakers. My brother has got a 72w Marantz amp from 1980 which he still uses.

Yes
Got a Technics separates system
Superb , had it 20 plus years , bought when I was still single😉

It now lies in a black bag, in the cupboard under the stairs
Last used about 4-5 years ago

Binned my hifi last year. I bought it when I was living in Japan back in 2002. It had an MD player (they were cool at the time) as well as the CD and radio, the radio didn't work here though and we hadn't used it for a good few years. All CD's backed up onto my server and copied to iphone when I want them. Stream them out via bluetooth to the speaker system connected to the TV.

have got a few hundred cd's downstairs and a load of vinyl up in the loft. it must be 4 or 5 years since I played a cd anywhere other than in the car, and i don't even possess a turntable for the vinyl.

Have got a load of Sonos speakers throughout the house and stream everything via Spotify.

Still use my Technics mini seperate system I bought quite a while ago. Use it for playing cd's and listening to the radio (but not DAB)
Have no intention of getting rid of it.

Still using my HiFi. Amp had to be replaced about five years back, the old Technics one died. Speakers were replaced about the same time as my old 70s one had cones that had slowly started to disintegrate. New speakers were much smaller, but give a far better sound than the old ones ever did. New cabling was bought along with the new speakers Still got a turntable for the odd vinyl session. CD player is circa 1990 and still works a treat. It's a bit like triggers brush really, but, it still sounds good when sat in the middle of the sofa at the other end of the living room :)

My HiFi system has lived in the garage since I went over to a Sonos system a few years ago. I stream via Deezer @ £9.99 per month and also have my CD collection backed up to Amazon Music, which I can also play via Sonos. I haven’t bought a CD or download in years..

Still use and love my Quad system - FM4 tuner, 34 pre-amp and 405 power amp. Coupled with my Rega Planar 2 turntable and Musical Fidelity speakers, I'm a happy bunny.

I digitized my entire record & CD collection over a couple of years and have a Squeezebox system installed in three rooms. In my main listening room I have an Audiolab amplifier, Cambridge Audio DAC & Tannoy Revolution speakers. The music is digitized on the highest setting & sounds as good as the original, the records were done using my hi fi turntable. some of the records I listen to are over 50 years old & sound as fresh as the day they were recorded. "Music was my first love....."

I have a Sony Mini HiFi CD/Mini Disc player which I was intending to replace last year. I visited my local Currys/PC World to see what was available and they refused to let me listen to any of the systems on display! How do they expect anyone to buy without listening to the quality of sound?

Confirmed hi fi separtes and vinyl snob here. Got a lovely Sony amp thats over 20 years old but will still blow any non-separates system out the water. Cd player ans turntable complete the line up,I just run a jack lead off one of the inputs if I want to plug my phone in to stream spotify
