Do you have a HIFI system or.......

I have got a mix of systems but nothing beats my hi fi separates for absolute quality of sound. The speakers alone cost me over £100 nearly 40 years ago and the sound quality is simply just not matched anything else I have got.

However it is the least used system simply because I mainly listen to music very late at night and do not want to keep my daughter awake.

I digitized my entire record & CD collection over a couple of years and have a Squeezebox system installed in three rooms. In my main listening room I have an Audiolab amplifier, Cambridge Audio DAC & Tannoy Revolution speakers. The music is digitized on the highest setting & sounds as good as the original, the records were done using my hi fi turntable. some of the records I listen to are over 50 years old & sound as fresh as the day they were recorded. "Music was my first love....."

good call - John Miles..must go have a listen on Youtube - right now!

....oooh - that was pretty darned good - very OTT - but good

Just about to move my Dunlop Systemdek; Rotel amp, Marantz CD player and Dali speakers out to our brand new Garden Studio - wth all my vinyl LPs and a load of CDs. So I can listen to my vinyl for as long and as loud as I want without annoying Mrs Hogie and the neighbours through the wall. Going to plug it into something like a Sonos CONNECT so I can stream back into the house if that's what I want to do and probably get some Sonos or Bose kit for in the house (someone mentioned another manufacturer of wireless kit elsewhere in the forum - must go look)

And whilst I've been sat here - what comes up straight up after John Miles - one of my fave tracks from one of my fave bands - BURN!! :)

This bad boy takes pride of place in my front room. Thanks to the op for reminding me coz am at a Police tribute band to night ( Police force😉). Anyway I now have the best of police playing away on me pioneer system. LP speed and size of record set correctly. Would not do without it. Had it best part of 30 years. It replaced a crap amstrad system I bought from Woolies.
Best bit, I was at daughters last year before she split up with husband. Just as I pulled up he was chucking a nigh on identical system less the record deck into the boot of his car ready for the tip. " Er jog on " I said " al save you the trip to the tip coz that's going in me man cave" he gave me the biggest set of speakers to go with them. Spent one weekend putting shelving up so it would take pride of place in said man cave.
odd thing is, when I bought me system the guy also sold me another set of smaller speakers to have surround sound and told me how to fix it into the back of the telly and VHS recorder so I had surround sound from the telly. Now don't get me wrong, every house has it now but it was so advanced back in the 80's. MOTD was brilliant.
good post OP

He's my mate. Play golf with him occasionally. Regular visitor to the range, like me.

Ave played golf with him and he is a gentleman, signed an LP for me. Just hope I have not left a bad impression on him. Got caught out on the back nine, and it's the only time ave ever had to have a dump on the course. Bagheads dodgy McDonalds is to blame.

until a few weeks ago i had a technics seperates system in the loft, it now resides with my son.
Al bet he was soin cartwheels when he plugged that in.

cannot get me head around folk getting rid of CDs unless they are desperate for the space. Some of those CDs will be worth a bob or two, similar to how some vinyls are goin for stoopid money now.

Just taken our system to the tip on Monday. Got a couple of hundred CD's that will be following them in a few days. Its 3 years since we played anything on the stack, preferring to stream everything with the ipad and onto a Bluetooth speaker.
Bring the CD’s to Redcar, Baggsy first dibs 👍🏻

Looks decent tash but the records stay on better if you have it the right way up :D

Took out the separates system last year and replaced with a house wide Sonos system. A Play 5 in my front room, a Play 3 and 1 in the family room and 1's in each of the bedrooms. Family Spotify account running through them. Best thing I ever did. Got some Prince and the Revolution playing now.

A modest, and oldish, separates system for me. Mordaunt Short Speakers, Technics CD Player, Cambridge Audio Amp, and a Sony DAB Radio. Sounds really good, and I also have the facility to plug my iPhone/iPod through it. As you spend more money the sound quality does improve
(listening to the DAB radio through it sounds brilliant especially), but I think returns diminish so the thing to do is to find your price point. There's a specialist high-end HIFI shop near me, and there megabucks demos sound amazing, but I'd never spend that much money!

Pioneer separates from 30 years ago. Tuner, deck, amp, cassette, dvd and LD.......in the loft.
Technics mini that I play the tele through.
And the Alexa thingamay (which is brilliant) through a wee Sony in the kitchen.

This thread takes me back to my very first stereo.

My parents had a mono 1950s Bush record player (you know the sort - I've still got it as it happens). I decided I had to have something a bit better to listen to my 2 or 3 LPs - so to my parents cautious approval (they thought I would have it too loud) - at the age of about 13-14 I bought myself my Fidelity Music Master UA2 stereo. Oh boy. What sound! (relatively).

Anyone else have one of these? And (as it happens) at first all I would have been playing would have been either Beethoven's Piano Concerto #5 or Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite
