Do you ever knowingly throw shots in a game?

I did it a lot when my wife started playing. It never lasted long though as she got down to a 14 h/c and I was off 17.

Morning Chico one post in seven years that's a record and welcome to the mad house.

Have a pal who hit a rich vein of form last year his hcap was plummeting. He was told that the national doubles comp him and his son was in, counted official hcaps from round to round. So in the local club comps you could see him having a stonking round to blow up in the last few holes, alla throw shots to protect his hcap.
it worked coz they got to the finals in Turkey. He met his fave player John Daly.
However, they got thumped by another two lads in the first round, who apparantly protected there hcaps better than me pal.
He had a fantastic week there and played some lovely golf. However he said there was some fantastic golf played and a lot of players played the rounds of there life 😒

Not a lot of point in giving any player you're playing against a false sense of their abilities by throwing shots or taking it easy. In casual golf with a beginner I'd be much more likely to give extra shots or tell them I'd ignored a miss or a duff - or tell them to 'have anoterr go'

Working off rough handicaps , tells me its not a serious game .

Then yes. well kinda , I wouldn't be trying as hard or as competitively , be missing chips or putts I wouldn't wane be missing with proper scorecard in my pocket

Yes - there is this - I probably wouldn't take much time seeking out the right line on my putts.

What's needed is a pretty honest discussion about how many shots to give before you start. Much better to make winning the game a challenge rather than not winning by a mile an issue. Otherwise, if it's just for fun, forget playing a match and just.....have fun!

Thanks for the welcome Tashyboy, due to circumstances not had much golf the last several years. Just joined a new club however so that's all going to change hopefully. 😄

Chico for gods sake don't ask your beloved if she's started throwing shots when playing you. If she says yeah it might be another few years you pick the bats up again.

She's that competitive now I'll be lucky to get a two inch gimme off her never mind throwing shots. She nearly broke a 150 quid putter over her knee because she missed a short putt.

Better her knee than the back of your head. 😁
