So was playing a game today and was a bit of a mismatch.... Working off rough handicaps giving up 10 shots but was someone who didn't really play golf so was always going to be tough....

But question is do you ever throw some shots to make it a bit more enjoyable for someone else? Just to keep the game a bit interesting and not to scanner opponent or do you always just play your best game?

Felt a bit awkward and maybe a bit disrespectful to not do my best

Always must play your best game - possibly the other person would find it a bit insulting otherwise

Obviously the other person didn't know there were a few shots and putts I was just hitting instead of doing my usual process etc but yeah I don't think I'd do it again so lesson learned

Nope. My experience of playing with folk who don't play that much is that they love seeing someone play well - and of course that's relative to themselves.

I've done it a few times playing against my dad and Father In law, they don't play very often I just wanted them to enjoy the day.
I don't think they were insulted as I didn't tell them I intentionally pushed the 3 ft putts just to keep the match going.

Maybe I should've pummelled them 10 & 8

I do it all the time against Odvan. He thinks he is a good golfer when he beats me but now the truth has come out :o

Did you forget my signature?

Have a wee click to remind you. And you refused to let me have the hat-trick pic.

So to answer the OPs question, against certain people, I don't even try :D

Ive been throwing all my games against Imurg for the last 3 months, coz otherwise he would be so depressed and I hate seeing that bottom lip quiver.

At least thats what I've been telling myself :)

No, its not the done thing, go for the jugular every time

Were you playing with Virtuocity ?.

But when playing in 3 ball points games , there can be scenarios near the end of a game, when it's best you don't win a hole.:smirk:

Once. In a pairs final. My partner and I were both on the green with two putts for a win, with me to putt first. We had a great record down the years, absolutely mullering some great pairs. It was to be our last club knockout together as I was upping sticks and moving 150 miles away. I left my first putt about a foot short, then deliberately knocked the next one past, knowing(praying) he wouldn't 3 putt from about 8 feet. A win and more gold lettering, and this time he bagged the winning putt.

Not normally, but ......

There was a game recently at Blackmoor where Richart and I were so far ahead after 9 holes that I eased off the gas a tad so that our losing opponents would feel just a little bit better about closing the gap a bit :mmm::whistle::whistle::ears:

To be fair, these single figure h/cap players were giving us a few shots based on 3/4 difference. If it had been 9/10th then it could have been embarrassing

As said earlier, I'm only ever playing the course and my own previous scores, so any easing up would only be against my former self

Where my score puts me within a comp is secondary
