It's my birthday in a couple of weeks and with my old Ping Anser IV putter standing out as the only non-Titleist club in my bag I'm thinking of asking for some money to put towards a SC Select Newport 2.6 putter. I've been looking around and I like the way the shaft is towards the centre of the face, don't know why it just looks and feels really good compared to heal shafted putters. Anyone got one of these or care to suggest a similar alternative. I'm not a fan of big putters like the two ball types and inserts just don't feel right so anything like that is ruled out. What have the wise members of the forum got to say on he subject...

To Scotty or not to Scotty?

IF the Pings working stick with it

nah thats rubbish, get a new shiny Scotty :p I have a heal shafted Scotty (Newport 2,5) which is lovely, I also have a Kombi (mallet) and a Fastback (half mallet) and all are very good putters, but its definitely about finding one that works for you. Try and find a place local that has a decent selection and see what suits the eye/works (if youve already done this and its the 2.6 then get it bought :) )

I have a scotty, but this due to my personal preference for the putter and the feel and confidence it installs. Not because it is a scotty. If you like the club as a club buy it, if you like it for the brand and to complete the set then you need to have a look at yourself and realise just how stupid that can be.

If your putting is bad get a lesson, if it isn't bad then why bother changing

I didn't ask for a lecture :D just suggestions on putters that I might want to look at instead of he Scotty :D

I've tried various putters over he years but always end up back with the Anser 4 even though I'm not 100% happy with it. However, I've never tried one of the more expensive ones as I couldn't afford them.

Yeah sorry about that, but if you keep coming back to the ping then change? I would try scottys out but unless there is a considerable change in putting I wouldn't bother splashing out £200. But hey it's ultimately your money and decision

It's whatever you feel happiest with. No-one else can tell you which putter will work for you.

Hawkey, interestingly enough I might be looking for an answer 4, is it the newer one? I'm going to be selling my Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2.5 which is only a few months old and a new iomic grip on it. Maybe theres a potential swap deal to be done here?

Try the Taylormade putters too, great roll off the face
I like YES putters too

At times, I just cant get away with the soft feel of the Camerons, good on fast greens, I just prefer a slightly firmer feel off the face
Each to their own though

P.S. I would still willingly buy a New/Mint 33" Red X2 ...... if anybody has one:whistle:

I'm very much anti-Scotty, because I consider them overpriced and over-marketed! Only ever got on with 1 and that was actually not made by Scotty - just his brand!

In spite of having the similar attitude to most things TM, some of their putters feel pretty good. All byt 1 (and that had been manipulated) Yes putter has been pretty good too.

Best idea is go try a few and treat yourself. But I personally wouldn't ditch the Anser just yet!

What about snakeEyes putters, anyone tried those. Our pro has some in at the moment so thinking of trying those. Any views?

I've probably had it getting on for 10 years so doubt it's the newer one

Mike,

Depending what is in the birthday kitty (is Faye buying it?) then have a look at the new milled Odyssey line. Silveremere have a good selection and the #3 #7 and #9 might be worth looking at. I know the #9 is a half mallet type (its the milled version of the one I used at the Grove) but don't let that put you off. It isn't too big to look down on compared to something like a Ghost Spider. The feel off these Odyssey's is sublime

I've got two Scotty's, one given to me by a friend who is on tour and the other I bought because I got it at a bargain price. Neither are in my bag because I can't get on with either, I think they are overrated. I have a Cleveland which is an Anser style the same as both Scotty's and it is much better, sits better and it's got more feedback from the face. It cost £50, about a quarter of the price.

I'm about to put the Newport 2 up for sale.
