Difficult times??

After being totally addicted to golf through the summer I suddenly found myself completely bored of golf and not wanting anything to do with it.

I was in love with the game until about October then I've lost interest since. I went for a game on Friday and was just bored. Don't know why and am hoping the interest comes back or I won't sign my membership form this year.

Anyone else ever had this problem or can shed some light for me...???
 
i think its just the time fo the year.

have a wee break and wait for spring, try going out with friends on a sunny spring morning and having abit of banter rather than playing in the cold wet winter days with other club golfers.

The winter for me is all about practice ready for early season.I can understand people that get bored,playing day in day out,and of course there are fair weather players,those that dont enjoy the cold.Also players that have nothing to play for get bored,because they like competitions.I know you will get a lot of responses that say enjoy,but why not go out and try something different,play lots of different formats just to break up the game.And it always helps when theres a small wager.

Could you be golfed out? Not knowing how often you play could i suggest that you just take your foot of the pedal a bit.
Dont force yourself down to the club if you dont fancy it, just play when you feel like it.

The pull of the game will bring you back in good time.
 
I'm well known as a fair weather golfer and usually I only play a few times over the winter. However I do think this means I look forward to the golf season (which for me is March- Oct) more. As said above have a break. Wait for those lovely fresh spring days when you aren't wearing 6 layers, you don't have to clean mud off your ball every shot and the greens are smooth and true and the fairways are emerald green. I'm sure you'll get the bug back.
 
Might sound a bit strange but get yourself off to a links course, the weather doesnt really make it any less enjoyable compared to wet and windy parkland golf. It is just the time of year, golfers get a bit of preseasonal tension, much like women but without the attitude!
 
I find myself in the golfing doldrums every year. I wouldn't waste my time playing a course with temp tees and greens. I do try to keep the swing ticking over by a weekly visit to the range but even that is out of the question recently due to the range being snowed under or iced up. I hit a punchy 8 iron past the 200 yard marker but it was like the road shot in 'Tin Cup' it carried about 140 and scuttled another 80-100.
 
been there many a time, when i find myself in this situation, the clubs go away and i switch my head off from golf for around 2-3 months. then get on the blower and call up your golfing mates who you know will deliver a enjoyable round with a good level of banter and humour thrown in... HOOKED AGAIN!

its amazing how when your constantly trying to hit personal bests, beat previous scores and be in a competitive mood how un-enjoyable this sport or any sport can become. If your not pro and paid to play, then you need to be in it for FUN.
 
During the summer I try and play 3 times a week and now the bad weather is here I have only played on Friday since november.

Looking deeper into my situation I was let down by some so called mates in my last club. There was 5 of us and because I couldn't play in the comps everyweek they ended up playing in the comps every week together and they didn't once ask if I was free for the comps or even keep me in the loop when they went for a game. I did make the effort for them at the start of last season but because they didn't return the favour I have got the 'ump' and not bothering with them and changed clubs too. (there was other issues to why I changed clubs like tee time availability etc)

I think this has knocked me down to be fair and I don't feel like I have much to play for now.

Whine/winge over. Sorry. :)
 
Find out if there are any roll ups / swindles at your new club, meet lots of new people and have some fun losing money to them. This is the real golf.
 
Stick at it m8. It too enjoyable to give up.

A few weeks of good weather and you'll be itching for a game.

Keep at it mate,went thru that spell last year,was about to give the game up i was playing that bad,i could have walked away from it no probs.
But after speaking to the guys on here and a week golfing in ireland i realised how much i would miss the game and the banter,you would regret it mate.
 
Same thing happened to me many years ago. Got my handicap down to 7, similar to yourself, didn't think I could get any better, so I gave it up and didn't play for another 30 years. Looking back I think I got bored of playing the same course week in, week out. Trouble was it was very cheap and right on my doorstep. Should have played some different courses just to give myself a fresh challenge. Not suggesting you take such an extreme break as me, but I only took it up again on the off chance and have been loving it ever since. Bought my pensioner Pings (even though I'm not quite that old yet) and cannnot wait to get on the course again tomorrow.
 
Sorry to hear of your situation. I can't offer much advice as have never been in that situation.

I think you've done the right thing by moving clubs and surely is a good chance to meet new friends.

If I were in this situation and couldn't face playing, I think I'd start a bit of decorating at home or some DIY or even a garden makeover! Are you wanting to get back to it yet? :)

I know how you feel; golf's not for everyone. Tell you what, I'll give you £100 for your gear.

I think I'd miss playing yeah and I'm glad I've had a few months not playing. I just think I have not a lot to play for now. When I play golf I want to improve so I can beat my mates and have that competitive banter and now going elsewhere I feel I'm starting from scratch again and I'm struggling to find motivation to go out and play and enjoy it too.

Just hope things change in the next few weeks because I loved golf and it's only because of being let down by 'so called mates' I think I have no desire to play. :(
