We have different winners every week on the USPGA and European PGA.

Whilst you could say this shows healthy competition you could also argue that too much is down to luck (a lucky long-range hole out and move 29 places up the leaderboard. And a lucky 60ft hole out and it's top spot).

In my opinion, it's too confusing - not enough stability for TV audiences. I don't know half the golfers at the top of the leaderboard, I'm interested Golf! What must it be like for average Joe? Golf needs a new Tiger.

Please someone, fill Tiger's shoes.

Most stupid post of the week.........

Oohh, someone took the plunge... :o

I don't get the thread one bit, surely anyone winning anything is called interesting, whereas Tiger or his "replacement" winning every week is boring.
:D :D

We have different winners every week on the USPGA and European PGA.
It shows the frailty of the golf swing whether pros or amateurs and it only takes a couple of bad bounces as well and even the good guys can miss the cut.

are you just a bit bored tonight again Tim?

I think it is good for golf we have different winners every week.
Most people that watch golf will know the players in the top 50,so it will be nothing new to them.
Its also good for competition, the European game has come on leaps and bounds since Harringtons major wins, and Westwood and Donalds rise to no1 in the world.
The same winner week in week out will never happen in the golf climate we are in now,no player is streets ahead of the field, like Tiger was.

Of course its good for the game to have multiple winners. Not only does it provide incentives for other up and coming players to see new winners on tour but it increases the popularity of the sport particularly in smaller nations. Mannesaro and the Molinaris have been brilliant for a small golfing nation like Italy. Then there is Vegas breaking through on the US tour too

The other thing is there are too many variables in golf to have the same winners week in week out. At the top level the margins are so small and so it only takes a missed green, lip out etc and it could be the difference between a weekend off or not and if you aren't playing four rounds your can't win. Also, you can't play every event so you won't have the same fields anyway.

Nothing against new winners every week, and a couple of massive outsiders once in a while can be interesting, but I think that having some familiar faces on the leaderboards every week would be good.

Look at football, people go and watch to see certain players. Be it Gerrard for Liverpool, Messi for Barcelona, Tevez for City etc... When these players are not involved there is less interest.

Not fully agreeing with Tim, but can see a sort of point

Agree with you Tim, couldn't give a toss at last weeks Scandinavian open and little better this week. Different winners every week just makes the game look like a random game of chance, courses need to be set up so the best win more regularly.

I think it's good to have different winners as well as multiple ones too.
But I don't think it would be good to have another "Tiger" dominating the game again. Having 4 or 5 regular combatants plus the new winners keeps it interesting.
Where is the interest in seeing Rory win every week....?

You play 4 rounds of golf before the winner is decided...can't be purely down to luck.

Anyway, what do we class as luck? A 50 foot putt that falls is surely a good putt and not a lucky putt? :p

I too like to see a group of recognisably better players contending each week as it gives you something to relate to in that you kow their game and style.

I don't mind the odd "unknown" coming through to win now and again but wouldn't want to see too many leaderboards where I recognise hardly anybody.

Perhaps it's down to a bit of a changing of the old order with Tiger and a few of the older players dropping back and some of these "unknowns" emerging so that they'll soon be the names we instantly recognise?

For me its good to have different winners every week. I for one get bored when it is the same winner week in week out. That's not a knock at the guy who is winning it's just my view.

Agree that it's good to see some of the top stars in contention - after all that's why they get the publicity but there is no harm done to the game when you have different winners every week.

I agree with Viscount, can't stand birdie fests. I like to see the top names at the top but its nice to see some rising stars here and there also.

Variety is the spice of life after all :)
