Difference between 5 wood and 3 hybrid?

5 wood shaft will be longer so in theory you'd get more control with yhe hybrid's shorter shaft
Centre of Gravity for the 5 wood will be low and deep to get the ball in the air and create the spin required to keep it there.
Hybrid's CoG is nearer the face and higher in the face, so less spin and harder to get the ball in the air and keep it there.
If you're a lowish/average swing speed you'll generally hit the 5 wood higher and further than the hybrid but as swing speed increases the gap comes down. A faster swing speed puts more spin on the ball and the 5 wood goes too high and stalls, so the hybrid tends to catch up
At high swing speeds there could be little difference between the 2.

What he said....

Can't really add much more to that other than to say the hybrid is generally more versatile and you would find t would be more useful out of the rough. I've also used mine on the odd occasion to "chip" around the green as well - works really well.

I'm a 5 wood convert after struggling with hybrids. Love the V Steel I have and use it off the tee, fairway and rough.

Like the guys above, easy to get a nice high flight on it.

I've got both a 3H and a 5W and both have their uses. My 5W is longer so tend to use it more for second shots on long par 4's or the par 5's. The hybrid is ideal for our longer par 3's and for out of the rough.

I use both, I think overall distance is similar, give or take 10 yards. However, the 5 wood down wind is massive possibly 40 yards longer. Into and may be the hybrid is 10 yards longer. So height of flight is key as imurg indicated.
