Did you ever play golf with your Dad?

Fortunatly my dad was sports mad. Pushed me and my brother all the time. He got me into golf when I was 14 and I was lucky that he was a cat 1 so taught me how to play the game properly. Unfortunately my brother and his football career came first so I never really got as good as maybe I could have done. :(

My dad got me into the game when I was nearly 14. In the summer we play alot together when I am not at tournaments, he used to play off 6 and has a great short game. My girlfriend also plays so the three of us can go out together. Or if I go visit my girlfriend and her family, we can all play together as her sister has just turned pro and her mum and dad are off 9 and 15. So its great we can all go playing together. My mum and sister let the side down as they hate golf!

My father wasn't (isn't) a sportsman, I was lucky if I could get him to even watch me play football as a kid. Seeing TXL playing golf with his son the other day made me think just how cool it must be to spend some time on the course with a parent/child... maybe it's not what I think it might be (Dad moaning all the time maybe?) but it sounds like one of those things you don't appreciate until it's gone...

Did/do you play golf with your parents? What's it like?

Play golf with me owd fella every Saturday, and a bit of twilight golf in the week :D

My father got me into the game and helped me progress and learn. He a little P1$$ed my handicap is lower than his now, but still makes for good banter.

my dad got me started with golf when i was about 12. I always remember my first set of clubs my parents got me which had a wooden wilson 5 wood, i loved it!!

I played for a couple of years then stopped playing untill about 3 years ago when i said to my dad "fancy starting golf again" to which he said yes.

We played together for about 2 yearis when i decided to move clubs which was last may.

It was the worse move i have ever made and i am now back at the course i use to play at and back playing with my dad. I see it as its me and dad time and its something i wouldnt change for anything :)

I play with my paw all the time...It was him that got me into golf but i have a bigger obsession than he does for it.....He's a just get out there and hit and find it type of chap...Although he has a bit of a character like a modern day Victor Meldrew he can be fairly hard to please....Always moaning....I on the other hand am the complete opposite....I take everything in my stride.....

The way i see it...Like the op he never had much interest in my football career and when i was younger he got my hooked on fishing (excuse the pun) and that was what we used to do every weekend.....When i reached about 18-19 and the interest in the opposite sex started to grow a bit i soon started to loose the interest in the fishing and my main prioriety was football.....
All the way up till 3 years ago when i ruptured my achilles and it put the anchors on my career...

So now i play golf every weekend with him. The way i see it he isnt getting any younger ok at only 61 he's not an antique but id like to spend my time with him now like he did when i was young...I think its the best way to repay him for a good childhood....

Yes he complains a heap but iv learned to switch off from it as it was effecting my game greatly to the point that i nearly went back playing footie again...
I now have a 4 yr old boy and an 8 yr old girl and they are sdhowing a mad interest in golf...So i suppose it'll be a great excuse to sneak off for 9 holes practice on a sat when i can enrole them in the junior side of our club....And have my own competition on sundays...

Happy days :)

I'd love to play golf with my Dad but it's not a sport he's ever really been interested in. We tend to do our bonding fishing, not that I'm a regular angler. My younger brothers have been dabbling at the driving range recently and I'm really hoping they get the bug as think it would be a great way for a bit of bonding, not to mention decent banter.

Dad isnt sporty at all, his game is singing in the High Wycombe Orpheus Male Voice Choir, or doing Stanley Holloway Monologues.

I do however play with Father In Law, (Society Handicap 42, YES Forty Bloody Two)

Very keen, totally inept, but a great laugh

My late dad, bless him, once took me to watch Spurs v West Ham in the 60's and that was the one and only sporting thing we ever did together.

There was a family stag weekend away about 18 months ago and I was keen for my non golfing 21 year old son to be involved. I bought him a cheap set of clubs from Ebay and eight of us headed to the Belfry. His first ever shot on a golf course was on the Derby and after hitting a good tee shot he thought he had cracked it! Ha Ha. The next day we played the Brabazon and on the 14th we both realised that he wasn't at all interested so he just followed me for the rest of the round while playing games on his phone. One set of second hand clubs now in the garage. Fortunately my son in law is keen and plays whenever he can. My father in law is 84 and is a regular member of our group even though he can't hit it very far but at least he is getting out and about!

play with me dad every weekend. hes my main playing partner...

He is a bit set in his ways though of hack it go find it hack it again. And when he duffs it always shouts HEEAAADDD lol.
keep trying to get him to have lessons with me but he reckons he is happy as he is.

ive not got kids yet but we are having them in the next couple years. I would love for him or her to play golf with me as its the only sport i can play these days

I learnt to play with my Dad having six lessons together, and shared a set of clubs. Didn't play with him much after we got going though, as he played with really old boys well into their forties.

My dear old dad :(.
He introduced me to golf & we shared many memorable rounds together.
Fondly remeber staying at Trevose with him & my twin brother.
We also played at Almerimar together, many moons ago.
Regularly played The Berkshire courses, St. George's Hill & his all time favourite, Swinley Forest.
Played many times at his course, Pyrford in Surrey.
Unfortunately he passed away a few weeks ago, so memories is all I've got..................plus a fabulous photo of him holding the Ryder Cup when it was on show at Pyrford.
Cherish the moments, you don't know when they'll run out,
and hold on to the memories,

Slime.

Condolences for your recent loss. My wonderful Dad passed away 3 years ago and I miss him terribly - it seems to get worse not easier :(

We played together when I was a youngster and was quite talented at the game but mainly a hockey player so wanted to have a baseball grip. Dad kept nagging me to grip interlocking and I got fed up so stopped playing. He always regretted that and told anyone who would listen that I could have been a contender and played for a living if he hadn't put me off - bless him! When I play my best golf I know he's with me and watching and smiling and saying "I told you so" :)

My dad was sport mad, a Cat 1 golfer at Carnoustie and was great football player who got injured early in his career. He used to take me to the local Muni 9 holer when i was 10 and hit it around there i played there till i was 12 then stopped as i played football.

I took it up again when i was 26 and played with him a week before he passed away at 51, was great company on a golf course as well as a good player/coach. I love going out with my youngest son who's 12 and sport mad, he's more into football tho but could be a decent low handicapper as he has a nice swing.

Always great seeing him hit the ball as it reminds of the times i had playing with my dad and my brother, still play with my brother when he's home as we play at the same club.

The only think at my club is the front 9 had green tees for the kids and its the toughest 9 but if he can play there he can play anywhere.

I used to belong to the same club as my dad, and we used to play every other weekend. He was sneaky off 14 back then, on every board , with his best mate who was single figures. Then I changed clubs.

We belong to the same golf society, but rarely get drawn together.

Since his 2nd wife died, we have tried to fit a golfing holiday in once a year. Three years we have gone to Florida. Couldn't go last year, and this year we are going to Pinha longa in Portugal for a week. Great fun, and although he is now 79, doesn't hit it like he used to, we can still have a good laugh on the course. He does have an affinity for water though. Carries a ball retriever, which I take the Mick out of. I still borrow it though.

No, my dad has never played golf. Does enjoy watching it though and we used to go and watch the Open whenever we could together.

My mum, on the other hand, was born and bred in St Andrews and was a pretty good golfer. My grandad (her dad) was the one who taught me to play. Sadly he died before we had the chance to play a proper course together.

Going to introduce my kid(s) to it and if they like it great. Would be nice to go golfing with them one day.....

I played with my dad when he was alive, and as with most sports he used to give me a battering without even seeming to try. My son also plays, and he appears to be taking on board his grandfather job of giving me a battering.

My dad started me on the game and we played roughly every weekend for four years or so. Looking back, it was a fantastic time, although I was usually too caught up in being a bratty teen on the course to think of it a golden fasther/son bonding. One of my proudest moment was winning an honours board pairs competition with my dad, something that meant a lot to both of us.

I still play very ocassionally with dad mainly as he is still working and lives a couple of hours away. Saying that we have a couple of games booked in 2012 and I am really looking forward to them. Hope at some time, me, my son and dad can get a 3-ball.

My dad had all the sporting interest of a fish so have never played any sports with him but I got my 8 yr old daughter going a while back and she loves coming to the range with me. I started her so we had something to enjoy together and hope to get her out on a course this year so can see what the game is really about!! She's a mean putter! Just got to get her to turn her hips!!

All the time ...and still do . He used to take me up to the football field up the road until I could hit the ball without hacking at the ground. When I joined the local club we used to play matchplay for 10p and there was no shots because we were playing for cash. That all changed when he started needing the shots.
My own son has just turned 3 and loves his plastic set. Watches the golf on sky with me and even waggles the cluband sets his feet before he hits it. I had him up the course a few times last summer and played 1,2 & 18 with him. He loves being up there.
