Did I Hear That Right?

If it's dark in the morning, clearly I run over loads of kids on my way into work. Same again in the evening. Or, it makes no difference at all to road safety, as it's always dark somewhere. For me, GMT + 1 would work pretty well. GMT less so.

But, if this is all the Eurocrats have to worry about, bin them off quick time. There are other more pressing issues. Surely.
It's what "the people want" apparently. Maybe running scared with us voting out, they think they should actually do something, albeit tiny, that the people want. Would make a nice change.

Never really worked 'normal hours' so never understood the fuss...
Now retired so won't make that much difference to how I organise my life...

However if there is a genuine case for H+S concerns, relating to kids...
They need addressing fully and properly before any change...

The kids argument is outdated

How many kids actually walk to and from school? It’s all buses or lifts now days

Plus we don’t let young kids walk on there own anymore due to the rise in nutters around so it’s an outdated unneeded practice

Welcome the change

I think this was trialled in the late 60s - I remember walking to school with reflective armbands on. I don't know why it wasn't adopted, the Scottish farmers thing was always bandied around as the reason but I suspect it was just people resistant to change.

I remember the arm bands too, yellow with a grey stripe.
I know someone who doesn't like changing the clocks twice a year..................

If flexible working hours become more prevelant then it won’t matter anyway.

It’s only the 9-5ers who would need the extra daylight as the rest can do work when not utilising daylight for other things.

Think I heard the other day that only about 6% of workers work the "standard" 9-5 these days...

I heard that as well but I'm not sure I believe it. If it was genuinely true then why do we still have rush hour issues on the road and rail still?
It depends how strict the survey was. I, for example, tend to work from about 8:30 til just gone 5. So would I count as a '9 to 5 worker' or not? If not then that explains the figure being only 6%, as lots of people have slightly flexible hours, working 8 til 5, or 9 til 5.30 or whatever.

It was - and it was a bit weird walking to school and starting classes when it was still dark outside.
