Dental implants

The actual drilling and implant insertion isn’t too bad. For me it was the tissue removal from the jaw that was the worst bit so I could have the bone graft.

It was pretty sore for a month as the gum grows back around the abutment after the implant went in.

Cheers HH, I don't imagine she'll be a smiling happy bunny for a while and it'll probably be all my fault .
Is a bone graft always needed ?

Hopefully it's strong enough (y),

Hope it goes well for her. I have thought about them but they're so expensive. Mind you my dentist has recommended botox - much to my surprise! It's to stop my terrible jaw clenching which is not good for my teeth or jaw. She asked me to clench and I think mentioned Popeye in terms of how well developed the muscles are. So the botox causes paralysis in the relevant muscles for 6 months or so and then either repeat or (hopefully) find the habit has stopped. I'm going to try it!

If you don't mind me stepping in
In reality it depends what problems you have - pain etc - I'm not sure what you mean by "not good for my teeth or jaw"

Whatever it may be ....I would be very very cautious about this - using botox to treat 'bruxism' - i.e., jaw clenching / teeth grinding is very specialised - Most bruxism botox treatment is done by specialist consultants
its very different from the far more common 'facial' botox treatments than many dentists now do
So unless your dentist has specific experience in this specific area - i'd be wary

Thanks. Well I suffer from TMJ and my teeth get worn and she feels are a bit more mobile than she'd like due, she says, to the clenching. I've tried all manner of mouth guards but just can't tolerate them. I'm not sure how expert she is and not entirely sure how to find out?

Ask her she can make you a protective cover to wear when required , the type used when whitening teeth (y)

OK - TMJ can be complex - with various causes and symptoms and consequences
In general i'd suggest that if it is serious enough to consider botox - then you probably should be seen by someone with substantial experience in TMJ
Would that be your dentist - thats not for me to say - but i would imagine that few dentists in UK general practice have any great experience in using Botox in treating TMJ
I understand the thinking - that it may stop more tooth wear and stop tooth mobility getting worse - but some of that may / will be age related (apologies) - clenching itself does not cause significant tooth wear or mobility
Seems quite speculative - happy to discuss more in PM

I got a bone graft and implant on my main front tooth after having it knocked out as my face smashed off a kerb.
The procedure was fine, just a bit tender for a few days after which is to be expected.
I had to travel from Inverness to Auchterarder as that was were the ’best’ dentist for the job was.

Just back , she was in 3 hours for 6 inserts. ATM she's just a bit uncomfortable as the numbing wears of.
She started taking antibiotics yesterday, and has just took some pain killers and has steroids if the swelling gets too bad.
Goes back next week for a check up, then probably a few months before the actual implants are fitted. Fingers crossed.

3 hours! Yikes! Hopefully she'll be fine and not too sore.

She's now sleeping like a baby, hopefully she doesn't wake me up teething through the night :devilish::LOL:.
I've already had a bad enough night, Rangers got gubbed earlier tonight.:ROFLMAO:
